The book Serial Eater dissects 30 years of experimentation and reflection on the 'object' food. Since its development in the 1990s until its actual status, food design analysis helps us to understand how consumption habits and our awareness of the food system have evolved. What type of consumers are we? How do we assess our impact on today's food production and what are we willing to accept on our plates in the future? In an often anxiety-provoking approach to the future of food, food design questions our behavior, desires and doubts as eaters. It also proposes a more entertaining vision of our relationship to food (Italian Futurists, Eat Art, Marti Guixé...), whilst not forgetting its primary objective: nourishing our bodies, eyes and minds. From the origins of food design to current issues in terms of anthropology, jurisdiction and design. Text in English and French.

The Escape Artist written by Helen Fremont and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

A luminous new memoir from the author of the critically acclaimed national bestseller After Long Silence, The Escape Artist has been lauded by New York Times bestselling author Mary Karr as “beautifully written, honest, and psychologically astute. A must-read.” In the tradition of Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home and George Hodgman’s Bettyville, Fremont writes with wit and candor about growing up in a household held together by a powerful glue: secrets. Her parents, profoundly affected by their memories of the Holocaust, pass on to both Helen and her older sister a zealous determination to protect themselves from what they see as danger from the outside world. Fremont delves deeply into the family dynamic that produced such a startling devotion to secret keeping, beginning with the painful and unexpected discovery that she has been disinherited in her father’s will. In scenes that are frank, moving, and often surprisingly funny, She writes about growing up in such an intemperate household, with parents who pretended to be Catholics but were really Jews—and survivors of Nazi-occupied Poland. She shares tales of family therapy sessions, disordered eating, her sister’s frequently unhinged meltdowns, and her own romantic misadventures as she tries to sort out her sexual identity. Searching, poignant, and ultimately redemptive, The Escape Artist is a powerful contribution to the memoir shelf.

In the early 80s, recovering from my divorce, I moved from Ketchum, Idaho, to Palo Alto, California, to live temporarily with my sister Martin and her family, the other Martins, until I found an apartment. My brother-in-law was and still is a pastor in the Nazarene church. Also attending the church were two college mates of mine and the Martins, Jan and Doug Burgesen and their two children (the two kids, Stevie and Cindy, not Doug and Jan) who could not pronounce Uncle Ken. It came out Koko Ken. Soon, very soon, I was known to the whole church (even to my niece Jennifer and my two nephews, Todd and Gabe) as Koko Ken, which gave me the title of this book. Because of a birth defect, spina bifida (the definitions in the book), I wasnt expected to live past six weeks. As of this writing, October 1, 2012, Im six weeks shy of sixty-two years old. Ive lived a very fortunate life. Ive hiked up two volcanoes, Lassen and Diamond Head. Ive ten speeded down Mt. Haleakala. I played Chopins, King Faruks, and Carnegie Halls pianos. Read my book. Its funny. Its sad. Its me. Im almost a George Plimpton.

When one side is bright, the other side must be dark. To look at the other side, we have to shed some light on the other side or better be there physically when the sun rises on the other side. We can see pictures of the other side, read books about it, and talk to some people from that side to get some ideas about that side. But, none can be compared to going to the other side and staying there as long as it is necessary to know that side well.

Everyone’s heard of Usain Bolt, but how many people know about Dineka Maguire? Like Bolt, the Irish woman is a world record holder but in the rather lesser known sport of bog snorkelling. She is just one of the hundreds of unsung heroes featured in this book chronicling the people who go to bizarre lengths to break world records in the weirdest categories; people who devote hours of intense training to spitting dung, eating cockroaches, sniffing feet or tossing tuna in the hope of one day being recognised as the best in the world. This astonishing compendium of the weirdest, wackiest and most disgusting world records will amuse and astound in equal measure. Entries include: Longest ear hair Fastest marathon while wearing a deep-sea diving suit Fastest bog snorkeller Farthest distance skateboarding by a goat Most bees on body Most milk crates balanced on head Fastest 5-km run while dressed as a penguin and juggling Heaviest airplane pulled with teeth Fastest shopping trolley Longest backwards motorcycle ride Most stairs climbed by bicycle Fastest 30 metres on a scooter by a dog First water-skiing squirrel

The Reporter S Kitchen written by Jane Kramer and has been published by Macmillan + ORM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-21 with Cooking categories.

Jane Kramer started cooking when she started writing. Her first dish, a tinned-tuna curry, was assembled on a tiny stove in her graduate student apartment while she pondered her first writing assignment. From there, whether her travels took her to a tent settlement in the Sahara for an afternoon interview with an old Berber woman toiling over goat stew, or to the great London restaurateur and author Yotam Ottolenghi's Notting Hill apartment, where they assembled a buttered phylo-and-cheese tower called a mutabbaq, Jane always returned from the field with a new recipe, and usually, a friend. For the first time, Jane's beloved food pieces from The New Yorker, where she has been a staff writer since 1964, are arranged in one place--a collection of definitive chef profiles, personal essays, and gastronomic history that is at once deeply personal and humane. The Reporter's Kitchen follows Jane everywhere, and throughout her career--from her summer writing retreat in Umbria, where Jane and her anthropologist husband host memorable expat Thanksgivings--in July--to the Nordic coast, where Jane and acclaimed Danish chef Rene Redzepi, of Noma, forage for edible sea-grass. The Reporter’s Kitchen is an important record of culture distilled through food around the world. It's welcoming and inevitably surprising.
