Pure evil... these 8 cases of true crime serial killers will let you discover how far these psychopaths can go to satisfy their needs to kill. The thought of a murder taking place somewhere in the world chills one's spine. And when you think that there are multiple cases of people murdering dozens of others, you can't help but freeze on the inside thinking of how such heinous cases exist and keep happening. Yet we can't help but feel intrigued by these cases as they show us the extreme evil that a human can reach. In this book, you'll discover the true crime stories of eight lesser-known serial killers. These include: The Motorcycle Killer - Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is the monster in the deceptive mask, the handsome man with the suave persona that fooled so many. He is among Brazil's most prolific serial killers. The Double Life of a Serial Murderer - A serial killer who never got to pay for his horrific crimes. Meet Herb Baumeister. On the surface, he appeared to be a successful business and family man, but underneath lay a twisted psychopath. Angel of Death - For 20 years, Tommy Lynn Sells killed without remorse. This horrific crime spree stunned the nation and goes beyond the typical psychopath behavior of serial killers. The Spokane Killer - Though Robert Lee Yates might not be as well-known as many of the other American serial killers, his violent crimes nevertheless left a savage impact. What prompted a veteran and family man to start murdering women later in his life? The Night Stalker Killer - There are some people who travel so far beyond the pale of conventional morality that their actions almost seem like desperate works of fiction. Richard Ramirez is one such person, a Satan-worshipping and drug addict who carried out one of America's most brutal and horrific crime sprees. Hidden Brutality - Brutality, sadism, remorselessness...Just a need to kill. This is Carl Eugene Watts, the Sunday Morning Slasher. Killer Nurse - Hospitals are supposed to a place of healing, but wherever Genene Ann Jones worked, a trail of suspicious deaths followed. What makes this killer nurse one of the most sickening serial killers is that she targeted defenseless, innocent babies and children. The Wicked West of Cromwell Street - What Fred and Rose West did for decades before getting caught in their house on 25 Cromwell Street, nicknamed the House of Horrors, goes beyond anything anyone could ever imagine... Thanks in no small part to the billion dollar movie industries in different parts of the world that release tonnes of serial-killer-themed movies on a yearly basis and writers and authors who publish thousands of novels and story books that portray the lives of fictional serial killers; we have become accustomed to the phrase "serial killers". A common idiom says that "familiarity breeds contempt"; this idiom is largely true and it is fact reflected in the way we associate criminals with the phrase "serial killers". It is not uncommon to see a toddler or perhaps, even a teenager who has spent hours watching a movie series centered around the life of a serial killer begin to associate just about every criminal activity he hears on the news with serial killing. Consequently, statements like "Dad, I heard the FBI finally apprehended the man who fatally shot aunt Serena at the park... the man must be a serial killer." The reasons for this apparent common misinterpretation of serial killing or perhaps more appropriately, serial killer is not exactly farfetched. Just as there seems to be a form of chaos regarding the use of the phrase "serial killer", there also seem to be a form of "disorderliness" regarding the origin of serial killer; even though it must be said that there appears to be a consensus in the case of the latter, especially of recent. It is widely believed that the phrase was first used in an English Language book titled The Complete Detective; the book written by Richard Hughes was published in 1950. However, recent research credits the first use of the phrase albeit in German to Ernst August Ferdinand Gennat, the Director of the Berlin Criminal Police, around 20 years before The Complete Detective was published (1931 to be precise). In the new age however, FBI Special Agent, Robert Ressler, who was one of the founding members of the Bureau's elite Behavioral Science Unit receives a larger chunk of the recognition for inventing the phrase "serial killer". According to Robert Ressler, he fell in love with the phrase when the FBI where attempting to solve the case of the notorious serial killer "Son of Sam" (who coincidentally we are going to look at) in the 1970s. Before we begin to explore the lives of Son of Sam and other infamous serial killers this country has ever had I think it's only fair that we fully comprehend what makes an indivual a serial killer. Just like other knock-on themes surrounding serial killer(s), the definition of what constitutes of a serial killer still generates debate even up until today. The main area of the definition of serial killer which springs up debate is the number of murder victims a serial killer should have. While the FBI puts it as a series of two or more murders committed by an individual other experts like psychologists and related professionals are of the opinion that the murder victims of serial killer should be a minimum of three. Despite this difference in the number of murder victims of a serial killer, the consensus is that uncharacteristic psychological satisfaction, financial rewards, physical and sexual delight, and aberrant search for ecstasy are often times the deciding factor in the heinous behavior of serial killers. Another critical part of serial killing is that the murder events must have taken place at different times; this break between events is often called the "cooling off period". Despite the apparent disparity in the "numerical victim-composition" of a serial killer, one thing is certain: they largely murder people at unprecedented rate and nobody wants to be friends with a serial killer, well, except he or she is also a serial killer or a related criminal.

How well do you know your neighbors? Maybe you should get to know them better! Growing up, we are taught that monsters are easy to identify, but the truth is very different. Too often, the serial murderer does not stand out. Otherwise, he, or she, would get caught. The contrast between the ordinary-seeming lives that provided cover for their cruel secrets is exposed in The Serial Killer Next Door: The Double Lives of Notorious Murderers. To their coworkers, neighbors, and others who knew them, they led unremarkable lives. They had careers as military pilots, police officers, landscapers, small business owners, farmers, realtors, reporters, authors, veterinary technicians, nurses, doctors, handymen, painters, and chefs, while they simultaneously stalked city suburbs, college campuses, trailer parks, and red-light districts. This chilling book looks at the horrifying stories of nearly 30 malevolent killers (and hundreds of innocent victims) who were mistakenly trusted, including … Genene Jones, a nurse responsible for the murder of 60 infants and children in her care. She’s said to be the inspiration for Stephen King’s iconic character of Annie Wilkes, in Misery – and her nephew broke into King’s home, threatening to blow up the writer and his family because of it! Robert Lee Yates, a helicopter pilot in the Army National Guard who, when caught, buried one body outside his bedroom window as his wife slept. Gary Ridgway, also known as the Green River Killer, went undetected for 20 years, working for 30 years as a painter for a truck company and married for 17 years. Kathleen Folbigg, whose three children were at first thought to have died from natural causes. She only got caught when her husband found her personal diary. Joseph James DeAngelo, who worked various jobs, including as a police officer and a truck mechanic. He went on a decades-long crime spree and was finally caught with the help of DNA evidence. His case was instrumental in the establishment of California's DNA database. And dozens of other serial killers! It’s chilling to realize that many serial killers have created second lives that are completely divorced from the brutality and evils they commit. It’s incomprehensible to think that they are able to flip a switch, transforming them from apparently loving, ordinary men and women into torturous, homicidal slaughterers. With more than 120 photos and graphics, The Serial Killer Next Door is richly illustrated. Its helpful bibliography and extensive index add to its usefulness. We trust our neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances. Of course, we do. It's ominous to think that we can't!

The 16-year-old was lucky. She at least survived her encounter with Dayton Leroy Rogers to detail its horrors. But a long list of other women were not as fortunate. Their stories had to be painstakingly pieced together by police from the corpses on the most shocking trail of terror ever left by a serial killer. The Man Who Loved to Kill Women--Dayton Leroy Rogers was known in Portland, Oregon as a respected businessman and devoted husband and father. But at night he abducted women, forced them into sadistic bondage games, and thrilled in their pain, terror and mutilation. His murderous spree was stopped only after, in plain view, he slashed to death his final victim...and when a hunter accidentally stumbled onto the burial grounds of seven other women Rogers had killed one-by-one in the depths of the Molalla Forest did police realize they were dealing with a killer whose bloodlust knew no bounds. This is the shocking true story of the horrifying crimes, capture, and conviction of Dayton Leroy Rogers, Oregon's mild-mannered businessman by day--vicious serial killer by night.
