Browse a Christian book website or bookstore and notice all there is for leaders and would-be leaders. We are inundated with studies of leaders, keys to leadership, and tips on becoming a leader. But how many books inspire us simply to serve one another? How many books involving servanthood are not tied to leadership and basically about leadership? The appeal of leadership has hijacked the biblical call to servanthood. As a result, we major on a role that will only ever be held by a few, and we largely ignore a role that ought to be held by every Christian. What ever happened to servanthood?Servanthood as Worship offers Christians a biblical understanding of their calling to serve in the local church, motivated by the grace that is ours in the gospel. It has the potential to revitalize service teams in churches across the world, from brand new church plants to long-established congregations.

Although servanthood is often discussed as an important part of leadership, it is also the basic calling of every follower of Jesus Christ. Siang-Yang Tan takes a fresh approach to servanthood, exploring it as loving obedience to God in and of itself, regardless of personal greatness, fulfillment, or success. He lays out the biblical case and practical guidance to help all Christians live out their foundational call of being a servant of God in all areas of life. Tan's focus on servanthood alone--in contrast to the many books on servant-leadership--will appeal to pastors, church leaders, and all Christians interested in a biblical perspective on servanthood.

Servanthood integrates the religious and secular dimensions of life and work in a fresh understanding of leadership and power that is modeled on Jesus as the consummate "servant leader." Too often servanthood is seen as a lofty but unrealistic ideal, possible only for a few, while in the secular realm it is dismissed as servitude. Sims brings the pastoral wisdom of a bishop together with insights from his years as director of the Institute for Servant Leadership to tell us of its power to transform human experience.

Leadership is a subject that has gained impressive visibility in the past two decades. The number of books, monographs and articles, as well as seminars, devoted to the development of one's leadership skills has been almost exponential growth. This study is an attempt to forge a full-orbed theology of Christian leadership grounded in the teaching of Scripture. What emerges from tracing the theme of leadership through the biblical record is a servanthood pattern, one that is wholly distinct from prevailing secular models. Our exposition begins with the biblical language of the servant, the term of choice for those great leaders used of God to further his saving purposes in the world. Eleven Old Testament and five New Testament leaders are profiled. The portrait of Jesus Christ focuses on three motifs that governed his training of the twelve for kingdom ministry. The Pauline letters are mined for those convictions that governed Paul's practice of leadership, both of his mission team and of the faith communities that emerged from that mission. The treatment of each leader, from Joseph to Paul, begins with a series of preliminary questions and concludes with a mini-profile that correlates the biblical data with these questions. The final chapter offers a summary profile of the servant leader, one whose character, motives and agenda align with the divine purposes. Though designed as a textbook for upper level college and seminary courses on leadership, the book's readable format is ideal for churches and parachurch organizations in their leadership training programs. The author's prayer is that this work will serve as a catalyst to call God's people back to Scripture and thereby raise up a whole new generation of authentic servant-leaders.

More Than a Servant by author Darryl L. Rivers takes place in the life of every Christian believer that is, or will be part of todays workplace environment.?With sound Biblical examples and some shared real life experiences, Darryl provides readers with great insight on the right now realities of being Christ like while at work, and some foundational foresight to guide the expectations we have of our employers. With chapter topics ranging from becoming The Standard, and Avoiding Rebellion to Position is Not Enough, Rivers challenges readers to communicate their belief by performance and perseverance in lieu of preaching the Gospel in the workplace. A brief excerpt from More Than a Servant Chapter Five (Planting vs. Performing) pg. 59 We have been armed with the information that all will not accept our faith. This is not an open invitation to not sow, but a piece of wisdom to guard your heart. Whenever seed has been sown, we cannot place our expectation as a measuring rod to gauge our future performance. We must look for the revelation in what is uncovered in our sowing. The quality of the soil will be exposed based on our sowing, yet a decrease in performance should never be the result of Gods revelation process. Revelation is purposed to bring you into a position to manifest Gods glory, not to put a device in your heart the will limit your potential to be great in your career, profession, or current assignment. More Than a Servant is an easy read that is readily applicable to the working Christian. A revolutionary guide to operating as a true servant of God while working in the wilderness of todays world.

God is calling you to become His servant to change the destiny of the world. This book will show you how. There is a Man - Who knows what you're feeling. There is a Prince - Who offers His Peace. There is a King - Who came as a Servant to this world. There's a Life and a Love that cannot cease. There is a NAME! Jesus is LORD! "Those who wish to serve will be inspired by visions so right and beautiful. Those who are serving now will sense the gentle guidance to do it right and well. Those who have served and find themselves depleted and exhausted, will find understanding, restorative friends guiding them back to the joy of delighting in, and serving the One who fulfilled all righteousness." Hyunmee Lee, Pianist, Mother, Music Minister, many of whose recordings and PDFs are attached in Appendix 1 "The Heart of A Servant encapsulates the very best of David and Ellen's life's teaching. This volume, however, is more than a mere compendium of ideas. With the aid of Gary Parrett's catechetical hymns and musical accompaniments, the reader will discover many of the insights found in these pages modulated into worship! This book is a primer on how sound theology can and should lead to doxology. It is a tour de force of spiritual theology and Christian practice." Chris Chun, Professor of Church History and Director of Jonathan Edwards Center at Gateway Seminary near Los Angeles, California David and Ellen Ross have more than sixty years of missionary experience. Their multi-cultural ministry includes teaching and writing, mentoring long-term missionaries, and working for reconciliation between North and South Korea for the sake of world evangelization.
