A healing and balanced faith, Haitian Vodou is a member of the African Traditional Religions that came into the Western Hemisphere via the Transatlantic slave trade. Despite a much misunderstood image, Vodou gives its practitioners the tools to understand the world around them. By participating in an annual calendar of observances, rituals and services, servitors can engage with the Vodou "Mysteries" , thereby enlisting their aid in helping lead a balanced life. Manbo Vye Zo uses her own story of becoming manbo or mother of the spirits as a stepping stone for her students and godchildren so they can learn by her example. An educational text as well as story, Manbo helps the reader gain a greater understanding of the faith as she leads us ever deeper into unexplored territory. Come experience the world of Haitian Vodou from an insider's perspective, and leave forever changed in your outlook on the world of Vodou.

Have you ever asked yourself what changed when you were "born again?" You look in the mirror and see the same reflection - your body hasn't changed. You find yourself acting the same and yielding to those same old temptations - that didn't seem to change either. So you wonder, Has anything really changed? The correct answer to that question is foundational for receiving from God. If you lack this basic understanding, you'll forever ask yourself doubt-filled questions like: "How could God love somebody like me?" and "How can I possibly expect to receive anything from the Lord? I don't deserve it, I'm not good enough!" Spirit, Soul, and Body will help you eliminate those and other doubt-filled questions that destroy your faith. If you have trouble receiving from God, this is a must-read!

Vodou has often served as a scapegoat for Haiti’s problems, from political upheavals to natural disasters. This tradition of scapegoating stretches back to the nation’s founding and forms part of a contest over the legitimacy of the religion, both beyond and within Haiti’s borders. The Spirits and the Law examines that vexed history, asking why, from 1835 to 1987, Haiti banned many popular ritual practices. To find out, Kate Ramsey begins with the Haitian Revolution and its aftermath. Fearful of an independent black nation inspiring similar revolts, the United States, France, and the rest of Europe ostracized Haiti. Successive Haitian governments, seeking to counter the image of Haiti as primitive as well as contain popular organization and leadership, outlawed “spells” and, later, “superstitious practices.” While not often strictly enforced, these laws were at times the basis for attacks on Vodou by the Haitian state, the Catholic Church, and occupying U.S. forces. Beyond such offensives, Ramsey argues that in prohibiting practices considered essential for maintaining relations with the spirits, anti-Vodou laws reinforced the political marginalization, social stigmatization, and economic exploitation of the Haitian majority. At the same time, she examines the ways communities across Haiti evaded, subverted, redirected, and shaped enforcement of the laws. Analyzing the long genealogy of anti-Vodou rhetoric, Ramsey thoroughly dissects claims that the religion has impeded Haiti’s development.

In Seducing Spirits: The Battle for Your Soul, Dennis Aaberg provides a significant service to the Church by systematically and comprehensively presenting the nature of the spiritual battle that we are all called to wage. He identifies the various spirits, or demons, that effect sinful behavior, clarifies the nature of the battle raging in the heavenly realm, examines the reassuring provision of God's Armor for our protection, and outlines twenty-seven disciplines to help you live free in Christ. As with all Minister Aaberg's writings, the entire work is extremely practical, the substance of his thesis is thoroughly biblical, and the abundance of Scriptural quotations leaves you with a sense of, "Thus saith the Lord!" Seducing Spirits will sharpen your spiritual perceptions and give you an advantage in victoriously walking with Christ. Pastor Timothy A. Johnson Executive Director, Minnesota Church Ministries Association (MCMA) Bishop/Executive Director, MCMA - Africa Minister Dennis Aaberg is married with three children - Bradley, Angela, and John. Excerpt: ... from their home in a dry and thirsty land, may be as prisoners of hope, not without the stronghold in which they may find refuge.9 May we not believe, rejecting with a righteous protest the dark dreams of the popular theology of Eome, that there (as one has said whose thoughts are higher than his system) the memory of the past, with all its shame and sadness--the prospect of the future, with all its hope and brightness--will work together to an issue which no material fires could accomplish--"That these two pains, so counter and so keen, The longing for Him when thou see'st Him not, The shame of self at thought of seeing Him," 10 shall act to purify what is base in us, and illumine what is dark? If the future is to be the development and continuation of the present, if we are not to pass from a life of ever-varying relations with our fellowmen, each bringing with it opportunities for selfdiscipline and for serving God, to an absolute isolation, may we not go yet one step further and believe, as some did in the earliest ages of the Church, and as others have thought of late, that those whose joy it has been in life to be fellow-workers with Christ in leading many to righteousness, may continue to be fellow-workers there, and so share the life of angels in their work of service as in their ministries of praise I1 The manifestation of God's righteous judgment and (9) Zech. ix. 12; Ezek. xvii. 68; xx. 13, 14.
