Vengono presentati come assiomi indiscutibili e ripetuti come mantra. Sono nelle parole dei politici, dei giornalisti, degli economisti. Ma sono (spesso) sbagliati o (in parte) fuorvianti. Andrea Boitani seleziona e smonta sette luoghi comuni sull'economia che, tradotti in politiche economiche, influenzano pesantemente le nostre vite. "Il problema è l'euro", "è tutta colpa delle banche", "bisogna fare le riforme", "le banche centrali pensano solo all'inflazione"… Chi non ha letto o ascoltato molte volte queste frasi sui giornali, nei talk show, all'interno delle istituzioni nazionali e internazionali? Si tratta di una serie di luoghi comuni che, ripetuti acriticamente, diventano mantra, assiomi indiscutibili, verità univoche, scientifiche. Federico Caffè sosteneva che «liberarsi dalla suggestione delle affermazioni che finiscono per essere accettate per il solo fatto di essere ripetute non è una cosa agevole». Fine del libro è proprio questo: smontare, spiegare e liberarsi da sette luoghi comuni sull'economia contemporanea. Scopriremo che ognuno di essi contiene elementi di verità, ma sottolineare solo questi elementi o nascondere quelli che li contraddicono conduce alla costruzione di un'ideologia insidiosa. Un'ideologia che – messa in pratica prima e soprattutto dopo lo scoppio della grande crisi del 2008 – ha fatto molti danni: più disoccupazione e per più tempo di quanto fosse inevitabile; meno crescita di quanto fosse possibile; più povertà e disuguaglianza di quanto sia moralmente accettabile; meno inflazione di quanto fosse economicamente conveniente. Milioni di persone hanno sofferto per tutto questo. Non era destino: poteva essere evitato, se solo avessimo agito diversamente da come alcuni luoghi comuni ci spingevano e tuttora ci spingono a fare.

Francesco Felis è nato ad Albenga (SV) nel 1957. Vive a Genova dal 1967, dove si è laureato in Giurisprudenza con 110 e lode nel 1982. È notaio dal 1988. Autore di molteplici pubblicazioni, giuridiche e non, è intervenuto a diversi convegni giuridici e politici.

È difficile a dirsi se la disinformazione, specie in economia, sia il fine d’una sorta di volontà deviante o l’esito inevitabile della negligenza intellettuale, che, come male endemico, affligge l’Italia digitale. Di certo, si tratta di un preciso rituale il cui linguaggio può essere scientificamente descritto. Nel periodo della pandemia, per esempio, a dispetto di ogni autorevolezza e qualità dell’informazione, alcuni quotidiani indicarono un calo del Pil del 9-10%, altri del 15-20 o, addirittura, del 30%, precipitando i lettori in una voragine kafkiana. Non c’è da meravigliarsi, dunque, che più di 11 milioni di italiani siano del tutto privi di conoscenze finanziarie. In questo lavoro l’autore analizza scrupolosamente blocchi, rimbalzi, ricorrenze e altri fenomeni linguistici mediante i quali l’economia diventa spesso fantasmagorica e, insieme, impenetrabile. Ne derivano ipotesi teoriche che possiamo accogliere e interpretare anche attraverso le figure di Socrate, Cicerone, Tolstoj, Musil, Heidegger e altri. Una cosa è certa: la logica economica e, più in generale, l’economia di base dovrebbero diventare oggetto di riflessione e studio già nel triennio della scuola secondaria superiore.

This book presents theoretical and empirical perspectives on platform-mediated tourism, with a special focus on Airbnb. The case studies included in this volume show that the impacts of short-term renting on neighbourhoods, residents and tourism operators are uneven, but increasingly significant. During the past decade, digital platforms for short-term rental, transport, social dining etc., have enabled the development of a new generation of entrepreneurs in tourism and mobility. The mediation of services through digital platforms was initially presented as a form of a sharing economy led by non-professional providers, but it has grown into a new form of capitalist speculation. The inadequacy of existing legal frameworks in regulating platform-mediated activities has generated reactions by social movements, especially for the protection of housing rights. With the outbreak of Covid-19, the downfall in the mobility and tourism economy has revealed the acuteness of the structural crisis of cities and of labour based on platform-mediated activities. In Europe, networks of cities are taking action against platforms to regain their control over data that is needed to regulate platform-mediated tourism services, and the rights of residents in tourism cities. The authors in this edited volume explore issues of social justice in terms of residents’ quality of life, working conditions, the housing market, urban structure, the morality of operators who navigate through normative loopholes, and the responsibility issues of platform companies holding data on short-term rentals. The chapters in this book were originally published in the Journal of Sustainable Tourism.
