The Internet and related technologies have dramatically changed the way we live, work, socialize, and even topple national governments. As the Internet becomes increasingly pervasive across societies, we find more often that governments adopt Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) as part of their toolbox for facilitating efficient and citizen-oriented service delivery at all levels of government. Local governments across the major industrialized democracies have not been an exception to this trend and have set sail into the age of digital government. Closest to their citizens, towns and cities have adopted ICTs to facilitate electronic government (e-government). While research on local e-government functionality in terms of information dissemination, service delivery, and citizen engagement continues at an impressive empirical and methodological pace, gaps in our knowledge remain. Cross-national comparative research on local e-government that covers a wide range of municipalities in combination with in-depth case study analyses is lacking. Informed by a comparative case study approach, this book seeks to narrow that gap and offer practical policy solutions to facilitate local e-government. We do so by pursuing both a macro and micro perspective of e-government functionality in the federal republics of Germany and the United States and unitary France and Japan. The macro perspective focuses on the state and scope of e-government functionality across a large number of randomly selected municipalities of all sizes in these advanced industrialized countries. Based on a small sample of case studies, the micro perspective analyzes the successful implementation of e-government in Seattle (United States), Nuremberg (Germany), Bordeaux (France), and Shizuoka City (Japan).

Local government can be defined as a public entity acting as the sub-unit of a state or of a region, charged with the task of enforcing public policies. There have been many reforms of local government in recent years from the grassroots-led movement that took root in the 90’s to the overarching effects of globalization and decentralization. Local governments must adapt their practices in order to most effectively provide for their constituents. Theoretical Foundations and Discussions on the Reformation Process in Local Government addresses the effects of recent reforms in the political-administrative system of local governments and politics as well as future outlooks. It reviews the challenges, innovations, and lessons from local governments while providing theoretical perspectives on methods for positive reform. This book is a critical reference source for policy makers, government organizations, professionals, and actors in both local and international politics.

As the field of public administration has been changing due to globalization, government reforms, and increasing governance practices within intergovernmental networks, research and teaching in public administration also adapted itself to these changes. Public policy research and instruction has become transformed and has diffused into other countries with the help of international organizations and other agents of change and transfer. Research in this field is seen as an opportunity for a definitive shift from traditional models of public administration in the sense that policies may be better designed, articulated, and governed through a collaborative approach, while service provision could be enhanced in terms of proximity, representativeness, and innovativeness. The Handbook of Research on Global Challenges for Improving Public Services and Government Operations provides comprehensive approaches to the study of public administration and public policy from a comparative perspective and includes sound theories and concepts for understanding opportunities and challenges governments face when seeking to improve public services and government operations. The book is a compilation of selective high-quality chapters covering cases, experiences, and practical recommendations on topics related to public administration, public policy, social policy, public management, and public affairs. This book is ideal for policymakers, students, and researchers in the field of public administration, public policy, governance, public management, public affairs, citizen engagement, and administrative sciences and management along with practitioners, stakeholders, and academicians interested in the best practices of various countries in public administration and policy.

The Introduction Of E Government In Switzerland written by Tereza Cahlikova and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-08 with Political Science categories.

This book studies the question of e-Government development from a multi-faceted perceptive. The first introductory chapter outlines the importance of public sector digitalisation. The second chapter clarifies the used e-Government terminology and divides the concept between electronic public service delivery and electronic practice of democracy. Influential factors having an impact on the introduction of e-Government projects are divided between those of organisational, institutional, individual and technological nature and discussed in detail in the third chapter. The fourth chapter presents empirical findings from the Swiss case study that constitutes both an exceptional and exemplary model of e-Government development. High quality of public services and the participative style of democracy would seem to predestine the country to be the precursor in the field of e-Government. However, the state of e-Government development does not correspond to the potential that Swiss contextual conditions offer. The importance of the Swiss case study for the understanding of e-Government as an institutional and organisational transformation is outlined in the fifth chapter.

This new Edition of Electronic Commerce is a complete update of the leading graduate level/advanced undergraduate level textbook on the subject. Electronic commerce (EC) describes the manner in which transactions take place over electronic networks, mostly the Internet. It is the process of electronically buying and selling goods, services, and information. Certain EC applications, such as buying and selling stocks and airline tickets online, are reaching maturity, some even exceeding non-Internet trades. However, EC is not just about buying and selling; it also is about electronically communicating, collaborating, and discovering information. It is about e-learning, e-government, social networks, and much more. EC is having an impact on a significant portion of the world, affecting businesses, professions, trade, and of course, people. The most important developments in EC since 2014 are the continuous phenomenal growth of social networks, especially Facebook , LinkedIn and Instagram, and the trend toward conducting EC with mobile devices. Other major developments are the expansion of EC globally, especially in China where you can find the world's largest EC company. Much attention is lately being given to smart commerce and the use of AI-based analytics and big data to enhance the field. Finally, some emerging EC business models are changing industries (e.g., the shared economy models of Uber and Airbnb). The 2018 (9th) edition, brings forth the latest trends in e-commerce, including smart commerce, social commerce, social collaboration, shared economy, innovations, and mobility.

Future For Local And Regional Media written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Culture, Media, and Sport Committee and has been published by The Stationery Office this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Business & Economics categories.

The Committee decided to examine the local media landscape in the UK as it was very much aware of the challenges facing local and regional newspapers, including the impact of the recession and structural changes within the industry, which have resulted in a significant downturn in advertising revenues, a growing number of job cuts and newspaper title closures. These pressures have also had a serious impact on local commercial radio stations and regional television. Traditional media platforms also face the reality of changing consumer behaviour with people increasingly using the internet as their source of information. The report examines the following issues: the impact on local media of recent and future developments in digital convergence, media technology and changing consumer behaviour; the impact of newspaper closures on independent local journalism and access to local information; how to fund quality local journalism; the appropriateness and effectiveness of print and electronic publishing initiatives undertaken directly by public sector bodies at the local level; the role and effects of search engines and online content aggregators on local media; the future of local radio and television news; the desirability of changes to the regulatory framework for print and electronic local media, including cross-media ownership and merger regulations; the opportunities and implications of BBC partnerships with local media; the extent of plurality required in local media markets; incentives for investment in local content; opportunities for 'hyper-local' media services.
