ASCE 7 is the US standard for identifying minimum design loads for buildings and other structures. ASCE 7 covers many load types, of which wind is one. The purpose of this book is to provide structural and architectural engineers with the practical state-of-the-art knowledge and tools needed for designing and retrofitting buildings for wind loads. The book will also cover wind-induced loss estimation. This new edition include a guide to the thoroughly revised, 2010 version of the ASCE 7 Standard provisions for wind loads; incorporate major advances achieved in recent years in the design of tall buildings for wind; present material on retrofitting and loss estimation; and improve the presentation of the material to increase its usefulness to structural engineers. Key features: New focus on tall buildings helps make the analysis and design guidance easier and less complex. Covers the new simplified design methods of ASCE 7-10, guiding designers to clearly understand the spirit and letter of the provisions and use the design methods with confidence and ease. Includes new coverage of retrofitting for wind load resistance and loss estimation from hurricane winds. Thoroughly revised and updated to conform with current practice and research.

Finite Element Methods For Structural Engineers written by Wail N. Al-Rifaie and has been published by Finite Element Methods this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with categories.

About the Book: The book presents the basic ideas of the finite element method so that it can be used as a textbook in the curriculum for undergraduate and graduate engineering courses. In the presentation of fundamentals and derivations care had been taken not to use an advanced mathematical approach, rather the use of matrix algebra and calculus is made. Further no effort is being made to include the intricacies of the computer programming aspect, rather the material is presented in a manner so that the readers can understand the basic principles using hand calculations. However, a list of computer codes is given. Several illustrative examples are presented in a detailed stepwise manner to explain the various steps in the application of the method. A fairly comprehensive references list at the end of each chapter is given for additional information and further study. About the Author: Wail N. Al-Rifaie is Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University College, Cardiff, U.K. in 1975. Dr. Wail established the Civil Engineering Department at the Engineering College in Baghdad and was the Head for nearly seven years. He received the Telford Premium Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineering (London) in 1976. His main areas of research are: Box girder bridge, folded plate structures, frames and shear walls including dynamic analysis. He is the author of three books on structural analysis in Arabic. Ashok K. Govil is Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad, India and was also Head of the same department for over five years. He obtained B.E. degree in Civil Engineering (1963) from BITS, Pilani, India, and M.S. (1969) and Ph.D., (1977) from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, U.S.A. Dr. Govil`s main areas of research are: Optimal design of structures, fail-safe design of structures, and finite element method. He has written several research papers and technical reports, and developed many computer programmes for optimal design of structures including dynamic analysis and vulnerability reduction.

Seismic Loads written by Finley A. Charney and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Earthquake resistant design categories.

Abstract: Seismic Loads: Guide to the Seismic Load Provisions of ASCE 7-16 provides clear, authoritative explanations of the seismic design provisions contained in Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures, ASCE/SEI 7-16. When used with the standard commentary, provided as a separate volume in ASCE 7-16, Seismic Loads assists structural engineers in applying the latest thinking in seismic design of new building structures. Authors Charney, Heausler, and Marshall present numerous detailed examples within the main 30 chapters of Seismic Loads. The examples help navigate structural engineers through the process of assessing conditions, including identifying occupancy, importance, and seismic design categories; determining the seismic requirements; and selecting a structural system. Topics include building irregularities, structural analysis, lateral system forces, load factors, drift, and P-delta effects. Major updates within the guide includeAn expanded introduction that provides a description of the history of the development of the ASCE 7 seismic provisions and how the provisions are updated on a 6-year cycle;Expanded examples of the use of Equivalent Lateral Force Analysis, Modal Response Spectrum Analysis, and Linear Response History Analysis, examples that utilize the same 8-story building;New examples covering Chapter 12 (complete seismic analysis of a simple building), Chapter 13 (nonstructural components), and Chapter 15 (nonbuilding structures); andAn expanded set of "Frequently Asked Questions," divided into topics of General Issues, Structural Design, and Structural Analysis.Seismic Loads is an essential companion to the standard ASCE/SEI 7-16 for all engineers, architects, and construction professionals who work on buildings in seismically active locations. About the AuthorsFinley A. Charney, Ph.D., P.E., is a professor of structural engineering at Virginia Tech and is president of Advanced Structural Concepts, Inc., both located in Blacksburg, Virginia.Thomas F. Heausler, P.E., S.E., is a structural engineering consultant in Leawood, Kansas.Justin D. Marshall, Ph.D., P.E., is a an associate professor of civil engineering at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama
