Alcohol And Sexual Violence written by David DiLillo and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-25 with Psychology categories.

This book provides a chronology of the 68th Nebraska Symposium on Motivation, which is focused on contemporary research knowledge about sexual violence and alcohol use. This book is more specific to dating and intimate partner sexual violence in young adult populations. The target audience is researchers, prevention agencies and policymakers within academia and military settings. Alcohol use has long been recognized as a major contributor to sexual assault, with an estimated 50% of sexual assaults in the U.S. involving drinking by the victim, perpetrator, or both. Beyond the usual harmful effects, alcohol-involved assaults are associated with unique sequelae for female victims, including increased self-blame, stigma, and greater alcohol use to cope. Moreover, heavier drinking on the part of the perpetrator is associated with more serious incidents of assault (e.g., involving physical force) that result in more severe outcomes for victims. The purpose of this Symposium on Motivation is to bring together a group of experts in the areas of alcohol and sexual aggression to articulate the causes, consequences, and mechanisms of alcohol-involved sexual assault. Speakers will talk about classic and contemporary research and theories on these issues using cutting-edge approaches (e.g., virtual reality, neuroscience, laboratory-based alcohol administration) from a variety of perspectives (perpetrators, victims, bystanders).

Using an intersectional approach, this book amplifies the voices of those who were and continue to be at the frontlines resisting and responding to sexual violence during the rise of digital feminist movements, including #NoMore, #TimesUp, and most notably #MeToo. This book outlines the current socio-political landscape, including increased visibility of movements such as #NoMore, #TimesUp, and most notably #MeToo, and the public showcase of accused perpetrators becoming elected to the highest offices in the United States (e.g., Brett Kavanaugh’s election to the Supreme Court, Donald Trump’s election to the Presidency). It offers note to how this political landscape has impacted survivors and therapists, alike. The second volume include 5 chapters that highlight the experiences of feminist therapists and their therapeutic approaches. The chapters in this volume explore the role of technology and digital feminisms on survivor’s experience and its influence on therapist and therapeutic interventions. Both the volumes together cover a wide range of perspectives that bring to light the solidarity that was built among survivors, regardless of identity and experience, within the current socio-political climate while continuing to center the voices of those who are most often marginalized. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Women & Therapy.

A practical guide for women, nonbinary, and LGBTQIA+ people to claim our right to be safe, to take up space, and to speak up for ourselves. Don’t walk alone at night. Don’t leave your drink unattended. Don’t hurt anyone’s feelings. Most women and nonbinary people are taught these rules, intended to keep us safe from harassment, abuse, and assault, from a young age. While the #MeToo movement has swept the globe and shined a light on the pervasiveness of gender-based violence that led to these “rules,” the fears persist—and for good reason. While men—who commit almost all gender-based violence—are the ones who should be responsible for changing, those of us who are targeted shouldn’t have to wait for the world to transform and become a better place in order to live safer, fuller, more authentic lives. Through real-life stories, meaningful questions, and interactive exercises, Get Empowered will teach readers to: understand why gendered violence exists and how it shows up take up space say what they want let go of self-blame heal from past traumas Whether you’re looking for ways to stand up for yourself, you’re a survivor focused on healing, or you’re committed to being an ally, this book will give you the tools you need to thrive.
