Primate Sexuality written by Alan F. Dixson and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Nature categories.

Primate Sexuality is a uniquely comprehensive synthesis of our knowledge about the sexual behaviour of primates. In it, Alan Dixson reviews and integrates both the evolutionary biology and the physiological basis of sexual behaviour across the whole spectrum of primates, from prosimians tohumans. Covering almost every aspect of primate sexuality, the book begins with an analysis of the history of research into primate sexual behaviour. Several chapters discuss the complex array of mating systems exhibited by primates, and the bewildering range of tactics which influence sexualinteractions withing mating systems, and, ultimately, reproductive success. Sex selection, sperm competition, and the evolution of sexual dimorphism are explored. The book also reviews our current knowledge of the physiological aspects of sexuality, such as the sexual differentiation of the brain, hormonal mechanisms, the ovarian cycle, and the neuroendocrinal regulation of sexual behaviour. No other book written on the subject of primate sexuality exhibits such comparative breadth or technical depth. Dixson has been working on primates for almost 30 years, and has put together anoutstanding volume, drawing on and collating work spread across more than 2000 references. The work is illustrated throughout with hundreds of original drawings and figures. It will be welcomed by zoologists, anthropologists, and psychologists researching the sexual behaviour of primates, as well asby psychiatrists and clinicians with an interest in human sexuality.

A Natural History Of Rape written by Randy Thornhill and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-02-23 with Medical categories.

A biologist and an anthropologist use evolutionary biology to explain the causes and inform the prevention of rape. In this controversial book, Randy Thornhill and Craig Palmer use evolutionary biology to explain the causes of rape and to recommend new approaches to its prevention. According to Thornhill and Palmer, evolved adaptation of some sort gives rise to rape; the main evolutionary question is whether rape is an adaptation itself or a by-product of other adaptations. Regardless of the answer, Thornhill and Palmer note, rape circumvents a central feature of women's reproductive strategy: mate choice. This is a primary reason why rape is devastating to its victims, especially young women. Thornhill and Palmer address, and claim to demolish scientifically, many myths about rape bred by social science theory over the past twenty-five years. The popular contention that rapists are not motivated by sexual desire is, they argue, scientifically inaccurate. Although they argue that rape is biological, Thornhill and Palmer do not view it as inevitable. Their recommendations for rape prevention include teaching young males not to rape, punishing rape more severely, and studying the effectiveness of "chemical castration." They also recommend that young women consider the biological causes of rape when making decisions about dress, appearance, and social activities. Rape could cease to exist, they argue, only in a society knowledgeable about its evolutionary causes. The book includes a useful summary of evolutionary theory and a comparison of evolutionary biology's and social science's explanations of human behavior. The authors argue for the greater explanatory power and practical usefulness of evolutionary biology. The book is sure to stir up discussion both on the specific topic of rape and on the larger issues of how we understand and influence human behavior.

Aggression In Humans And Other Primates written by Hans-Henning Kortüm and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-19 with Psychology categories.

In this work aggression and conflict in man and other primates are interpreted in the light of evolutionary biology and game theory models. Unitl now interdisciplinary collaboration between the humanities and the natural sciences has been rare and hampered by different methodologies and terminology. Nevertheless, such cooperation is essential for elucidating the causes and consequences of aggression in humans and in explaining what shape aggression takes in particular situations. The aim of this volume is to present empirical and theoretical studies from biologists and social scientists to create an interdisciplinary framework for understanding aggression.

Race Monogamy And Other Lies They Told You Second Edition written by Agustín Fuentes and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-10 with Science categories.

A compelling takedown of prevailing myths about human behavior, updated and expanded to meet the current moment. There are three major myths of human nature: humans are divided into biological races; humans are naturally aggressive; and men and women are wholly different in behavior, desires, and wiring. Race, Monogamy, and Other Lies They Told You counters these pervasive and pernicious myths about human behavior. Agustín Fuentes tackles misconceptions about what race, aggression, and sex really mean for humans, and incorporates an accessible understanding of culture, genetics, and evolution that requires us to dispose of notions of "nature or nurture." Presenting scientific evidence from diverse fields, including anthropology, biology, and psychology, Fuentes devises a myth-busting toolkit to dismantle persistent fallacies about the validity of biological races, the innateness of aggression and violence, and the nature of monogamy, sex, and gender. This revised and expanded edition provides up-to-date references, data, and analyses, and addresses new topics, including the popularity of home DNA testing kits and the lies behind ‘"incel" culture; the resurgence of racist, nativist thinking and the internet's influence in promoting bad science; and a broader understanding of the diversity of sex and gender.

The Primate Origins Of Human Nature written by Carel P. Van Schaik and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-26 with Social Science categories.

The Primate Origins of Human Nature (Volume 3 in The Foundations of Human Biology series) blends several elements from evolutionary biology as applied to primate behavioral ecology and primate psychology, classical physical anthropology and evolutionary psychology of humans. However, unlike similar books, it strives to define the human species relative to our living and extinct relatives, and thus highlights uniquely derived human features. The book features a truly multi-disciplinary, multi-theory, and comparative species approach to subjects not usually presented in textbooks focused on humans, such as the evolution of culture, life history, parenting, and social organization.
