Basiskonzepte als Leitideen fachlichen Denkens sind zentral für das Verstaendnis einer Disziplin. In der Geographie entwickelt das Erweiterte Raumverstaendnis, konkretisiert an den vier Raumkonzepten, als Ur-Konzept des Faches eine besondere Relevanz und birgt grosse Potentiale für geographische Bildung. Dem gegenueber stehen eine bislang geringe Einsatzhaeufigkeit im Unterricht sowie eine defizitaere Forschungslage bezueglich der Anbahnung von Basiskonzepten im Allgemeinen und von Raumkonzepten im Speziellen. Ziel dieser Studie ist es, empirische Erkenntnisse ueber Lernprozesse, die während der Entwicklung konzeptionellen Denkens ablaufen (Lernhindernisse & Schluesselstellen des Lernens) zu generieren, Lernpfade der Konzeptentwicklung zu rekonstruieren und erste Hinweise auf unterrichtliche Anbahnungsstrategien abzuleiten. Hierzu werden Lernende der Sek. II bei der Bearbeitung eines gestuften Treatments zur schrittweisen Anbahnung des Erweiterten Raumverstaendnis videografiert. Anhand inhaltsanalytischer Lernpfadanalysen varianzmaximierter Faelle werden basiskonzeptionelle Lernprozesse mitsamt Schluesselstellen (z.B. Synthese der Raumkonzepte, Restrukturierung von Wissensbestaenden, Nachspueren geographischer Paradigmen) und Lernhindernissen (z.B. Interferenzen mit weiteren Basiskonzepten, geringer Grad konzeptioneller De- und Rekontextualisierung, geringe Trennschaerfe zwischen physisch-materiellen Raumkonzepten) im Konzeptverstaendnis identifiziert.
