This Old House meets Wayne’s World in this zany guide to designing and building tiny homes Derek Diedricksen has always had a love for small, modest houses ever since his father gave him the book Tiny Tiny Houses by Lester Walker for his tenth birthday. Combining his artistic abilities, wild imagination, and his passion for small houses, he self-published Humble Homes, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts, and Whatever the Heck Else we could Squeeze in Here in 2009. This book is a collection of Diedricksen’s creative/imaginative sketches for building small houses, shacks, cottages, and forts. The sketches are accompanied with hand-written commentary, both instructive and comical. Derek’s main purpose is to get your creative juices flowing and encourage you to get off the couch and use your hands. Believing that specific building plans squash creativity, he avoids too many detailed instructions, giving you the chance to put your own creative spin on your very own small abode (even if it is just in your imagination).

Many abodes can fall under the label of surf shack: New York City apartments, cabins nestled next to national parks, or tiny Hawaiian huts. Surfing communities are overflowing with creativity, innovation, and rich personas. Surf Shacks takes a deeper look at surfers' homes and artistic habits. Glimpses of record collections, strolls through backyard gardens, or a peek into a painter's studio provide insight into surfers' lives both on and off shore. From the remote Hawaiian nook of filmmaker Jess Bianchi to the woodsy Japanese paradise that the former CEO of Surfrider Foundation in Japan, Hiromi Masubara, calls home to the converted bus that Ryan Lovelace claims as his domicile and his transport, every space has a unique tale. The moments that these vibrant personalities spend away from the swell and the froth are both captivating and nuanced.

Three Tree Point is a prominent peninsula on the eastern shore of Puget Sound about 14 miles south of Seattle. Its name came from three massive fir trees that stood on the north side of the point at the beginning of the 20th century. The area remained largely undeveloped until 1903 when the Three Tree Point Company began marketing the community as a place to build summer homes. Seattle's business elite built houses at the point to take advantage of the beach lifestyle for which it has become known. Over the years, Three Tree Point and its 2.5 miles of waterfront emerged as one of the Northwest's most unique residential communities. Its history is a diverse mixture of family life, unusual characters, Fourth of July celebrations, shipwrecks, fishing derbies, and storytelling.

How can wounded people come to believe that God deeply loves them? Many have enjoyed William Young's The Shack, even if they puzzled over the book's actual meaning and theology. While some were quick to dismiss it as fiction, The Shack isn't really fiction at all. It's a modern day parable. Meeting God at The Shack shows hurting people how to read this story with profit and come to know God more fully.

These poems I wrote while staying in a back-room. I observed the lives amongst tenants from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Democratic Republic of Congo. Living in shacks and backrooms built with bricks and those built with concrete like the one I was living in. These accommodations are temporary for the tenants who are renting. Some tenants are job seekers while others are students all in all they are trying to make a living. God of heaven laid it upon my heart to write these poems. Firstly I did not realize the hardship of staying in a room that is all in one. What I mean is a room which is a kitchen, bedroom, lounge, dinning room, bath room and sometimes a study room and finally prayer room as well. In some shacks, back rooms or garages one finds a husband with his wife and two kids staying together. This is due to poverty that is plundering Africa and South Africa. Here there is no luxury of taking a bath in a bathroom or taking a shower. We use a tub, get water from the tap using a bucket, and boil it using a kettle then bath in a tub. After bathing, pour dirty water into a bucket then carry it to the toilet or pour it down the drain. We also washed dishes in a small dish and emptied the water in the drain. Tenants strive to live harmoniously with each other.

Affluence Mobility And Second Home Ownership written by Chris Paris and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-04 with Architecture categories.

Despite the current recession, the frequency of second home ownership is still surprisingly high throughout the western world. While the UK and Ireland previously had lower occurrences of multiple dwellings compared to the rest of Europe, they are quickly catching up with a current surge in the ownership of second homes. The recent MP expenses scandal in the UK has also drawn attention to the prevalence of second homes (or more) within the middle classes, and the fact that the concept is becoming increasingly popular. Chris Paris uses this text to address the reasons behind why second homes are becoming more popular, both within the usual domicile of the individuals, and in international locations. The socioeconomic factors and historical contexts of homes in cultures across the world are fundamental to explaining the choices in transnational home ownership, and Paris’ case studies and comparisons between additional homes in Europe, Australia, America and Asia expand upon the motivation for people to own a second home. Affluence, Mobility and Second Home Ownership draws together debates on gentrification, globalisation, consumerism, environmental factors and investment to provide a balanced look at the pros, and cons, of second home ownership, and what implications it has for the future. An ideal text for students studying geography, urbanism and planning, this book is also of interest to individuals interested in the changing ways in which we make choices on our places of residence.
