The objective of this investigation was to determine the mechanisms that lead to the collapse of reinforced concrete frame buildings subjected to earthquake forces. An empirical model was developed to estimate the drift at shear failure for existing reinforced concrete building columns. A shear-friction model was also developed. Shaking table tests were designed to observe the process of dynamic shear and axial load failures.

This book presents methods and results that cover and extend beyond the state-of-the-art in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering. Professor Sigbjörnsson had a close research collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology (NTNU), where his research was mainly focused in dynamics of marine and offshore structures.
