Shakespeare As Prompter written by Murray Cox and has been published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Literary Criticism categories.

Prompting is the thematic thread that pervades the pages of this book. Its primary connotation is that of the prompter who is urgently called into action, at moments of anxiety, when narrative begins to fail. The central dynamic issue concerns the amending imagination as a prompting resource which, through creativity and the aesthetic imperative, can be invoked in this therapeutic space when the patient - through fear, resistance or distraction - is unable to continue with his story. Psychotherapy can be regarded as a process in which the patient is enabled to do for himself what he cannot do on his own. Shakespeare - as the spokesman for all other poets and dramatists - prompts the therapist in the incessant search for those resonant rhythms and mutative metaphors which augment empathy and make for deeper communication and which also facilitates transference interpretation and resolution. The cadence of the spoken word and the different laminations of silence always call for more finely tuned attentiveness than the therapist, unprompted, can offer. The authors show how Shakespeare can prompt therapeutic engagement with "inaccessible" patients who might otherwise be out of therapeutic reach. At the same time, they demonstrate that the clinical, off-stage world of therapy can also prompt the work of the actor in his on-stage search for representational precision.

Over the course of literary history there have been many instances of ghost writing between husband and wife, where the wife has been the genius while the husband takes the kudos for any success. A recent film, The Wife, is but one instance of how a wife may allow her husband to take the credit for her genius. In this book you will find the greatest instance of a wife sacrificing her literary genius in order to immortalise her husband. The name William Shakespeare conjures up images of an uneducated man becoming the greatest writer in English history, fêted from the stages of London to his famous poems going through several reprints. After over 400 years of bardolatry, his name appears unassailable. What if, though, the adoration and the fame afforded him has been tragically misplaced? What if, contrary to common acceptance, it was to be proven that he is not the author? What if it can be shown that the real author of Shake-speares Sonnets, and by extension, the plays and poems attributed to him have to be re-imagined as being from the pen of someone so close to him that she has been overlooked for centuries? What if, like so many other women geniuses hidden from view, the real author is none other than his wife, Anne Shakespeare? This book presents evidence that the real author of Shake-speares Sonnets is his wife, Anne, and the young man who is the subject of them is none other than her husband, William Shakespeare.

Drawing upon a vast literature in psychoanalytic journals and either upon Shakespeare's characters themselves or alluding to those characters in the course of other topics, this book discusses eight of Shakespeare's plays and the relationships between the main characters in them. Psychoanalytic and literary approaches sometimes diverge, but they can also concur in seeing characters either as true examples of different psychological states and types of relating or as symbolic of aspects of the personality. The chapters contain many references to psychoanalytic interpretations from Freud onwards, although these cannot be proved, and in some cases are over-stretched, there will be times when psychoanalytic criticism 'rings bells' in the reader. The importance of this book lies in its drawing together from a large number of disparate sources, many of which will be inaccessible to those who do not have access to the journals or psychoanalytic databases. It is nonetheless relevant for counsellors and therapists, as well as for those interested in literature, particularly in Shakespearean studies.

Family Dramas written by Gwyn Daniel and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-15 with Psychology categories.

Most of Shakespeare’s tragedies have a family drama at their heart. This book brings these relationships to life, offering a radical new perspective on the tragic heroes and their dilemmas. Family Dramas: Intimacy, Power and Systems in Shakespeare's Tragedies focusses on the interactions and dialogues between people on stage, linking their intimate emotional worlds to wider social and political contexts. Since family relationships absorb and enact social ideologies, their conflicts often expose the conflicts that all ideologies contain. The complexities, contradictions and ambiguities of Shakespeare’s portrayals of individuals and their relationships are brought to life, while wider power structures and social discourses are shown to reach into the heart of intimate relationships and personal identity. Surveying relevant literature from Shakespeare studies, the book introduces the ideas behind the family systems approach to literary criticism. Explorations of gender relationships feature particularly strongly in the analysis since it is within gender that intimacy and power most compellingly intersect and frequently collide. For Shakespeare lovers and psychotherapists alike, this application of systemic theory opens a new perspective on familiar literary territory.
