SHAME ATE MY SOUL is a memoir that reads like a fiction novel you can't put down. Susan Walz shares her inspiring personal story of rising above the stigma of mental illness, suicide attempts, addiction, and misdiagnosis, and eventually finding the triumph of recovery.Spanning over two decades, Susan Walz lived with the mental illness diagnoses of postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD and borderline Personality disorder. Travel along with her on her journey through many struggles and losses that eventually lead to her discovery of the life lessons necessary to achieve her triumph of healing and recovery. She openly and honestly speaks from her heart educating and helping others understand and feel what it's like to live with severe mental illness and shows from her lived experiences what mental illness stigma is. Throughout the book, she inspires hope and discusses successful coping and recovery strategies and demonstrates that recovery and healing are possible. She is an example that you can live a happy, fulfilled and purposeful life living with mental illness. Shame Ate My Soul is a necessary book for everyone and anyone who enjoys reading an inspirational story that touches the heart, creates emotion, inspires hope and refreshes and renews the spirit and soul.Review and praise for SHAME ATE MY SOUL: "The gong show of psychiatric ineptitude continued, and her mental health declined. Every step of the way people just kept dropping the ball when it came to her care. Besides worrying about further stigma she'd be faced with after the suicide attempt, she had to go through being cut off Klonopin cold turkey and experiencing a terrible prolonged withdrawal. Finally, though, Sue was able to turn a corner. Her recovery has been truly remarkable, with the help of her faith, becoming a grandma, and finally finding a doctor who was able to give her the right diagnosis and get her on the right treatment.Sue has had a very difficult journey, and she's captured it really effectively in this book. It has a loud and clear anti-stigma message, as well as a very hopeful message for recovery. This is a very powerful book and I highly recommend it." -Ashley Peterson, Author of Managing the Depression Puzzle, Making Sense of Psychiatric Diagnosis and Psych Meds Made Simple

Passion, jealousy, and scandal abound in this regency romance based on the real-life rags-to-riches story of British actress Dora Jordan. Having grown up poor and fatherless in Ireland, Dorothy Jordan is determined to overcome her humble beginnings and become the most famous comic actress of her day. While performing on London’s Drury Lane, Dora catches the eye of the Duke of Clarence, the man who would become King William IV. Beginning a romance that will endure for twenty years—and produce ten children—Dora experiences great happiness with the Duke. But ultimately, Dora’s generous nature becomes her undoing. Betrayed by the man she loves, Dora is faced with the harsh reality that life rarely resembles the happily-ever-afters of the plays she performs. An extraordinary woman born into extraordinary times, Dora Jordan’s story is one of great passion and even greater pain. In The Duchess of Drury Lane, Freda Lightfoot reveals the true story of the rise and fall of an actress who captured the heart of a king. “With a host of fleshed out characters, this fast-paced, biographical novel is pleasure to read and a great addition to historical fiction centered on royal personages.” —Historical Novel Society

Shame, and doubting one's worth can be debilitating. Unemploment and isolation as a result of the pandemic can fuel these negative feelings. Darlene Lancer's book offers help for this particularly hard time. Learn how to heal from the destructive hold of shame and codependency by implementing eight steps that will empower the real you and lead to healthier relationships. Shame: the torment you feel when you’re exposed, humiliated, or rejected; the feeling of not being good enough. It’s a deeply painful and universal emotion, yet is not frequently discussed. For some, shame lurks in the unconscious, undermining self-esteem, destroying confidence, and leading to codependency. These codependent relationships--where we overlook our own needs and desires as we try to care for, protect, or please another--often cover up abuse, addiction, or other harmful behaviors. Shame and codependency feed off one another, making us feel stuck, never able to let go, move on, and become the true self we were meant to be. In Conquering Shame and Codependency, Darlene Lancer sheds new light on shame: how codependents’ feelings and beliefs about shame affect their identity, their behavior, and how shame can corrode relationships, destroying trust and love. She then provides eight steps to heal from shame, learn to love yourself, and develop healthy relationships.

He turns what was meant for our destruction into beautiful power and glory. Jesus will silence every evil thing in your life. He will open your eyes to see the truth in spiritual warfare. This book examines the interaction of spiritual and psychoanalytic lineages with psychotherapy in everyday practice. Written by a team of seasoned clinicians and illustrated through clinical vignettes, chapters explore topics pertaining to the mystical dimensions of psychological and spiritual life and how it may be integrated into clinical practice. Topics discussed include dreams, dissociation, creativity, therapeutic relationship, free association, transcendence, poetry, paradox, doubleness, loss, death, grief, mystery, embodiment and soul. The authors, clinicians with decades of experience in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and spiritual practice, draw from their deep engagement with spirituality and psychoanalysis, focusing on a particular theme and its application to clinical work that is supported by the generative conversation among these lineages. At once applied and theoretical, this book weaves insights from the heart of Vajrayana Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, Christianity, Catholicism, Ecumenicism, Integral Spirituality, Judaism, Kabbalah, Non-violence, Sufism and Vedanta. They are in conversation with psychoanalytic perspectives including Jungian, Post-Jungian, Winnicottian, Bionian, Post-Bionian and Relational. A felt sense of the spiritual psyche in clinical practice emerges from this conversation among spiritual and psychoanalytic lineages, beckoning clinicians ever further on the path of spiritually rooted, psychodynamic practice.

"I remember my mother Jocelyn." She accompanied "me to the induction center." She could follow me no further... "I can never forget the expression on her face, the sadness, the tears, for she had suffered through the entire ware for all her sons..." With this indelible impression, Jeremie, the youngest Lobel son, introduces his family as it faces the turmoil of the late 1930s and then endures World War II and battle's toll. Jocelyn, Catholic, a renowned singer, has married a Jewish physician, Aaron, a man of medical achievements. They struggle throughout their marriage not only because of conflicting careers, religion, and social status but with the fear of four sons in service during World War II. Moreover, Jocelyn's brother, Joseph, has become an agent for the British prior to hostilities and works and spies in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. He also marries a German double agent Elena, working for the allies. She comes to the United States to live. Mistakenly believing her husband died in battle, she returns to occupied France. Jocelyn, meanwhile, seeks a semblance of stability while trying to reconcile differences with Aaron and also with her difficult daughter-in-law. These accumulating home problems occur as her sons' letters arrive describing their trials on the battlefields while withholding their knowledge of a murder by Joseph. Eventually, Jocelyn's strength preserves the family and herself through tragedy and eventual worldwide peace. About the Author Richard Shain Cohen of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, is originally from Boston.
