These materials, including shape memory alloys (SMAs), piezoelectric materials, and magnetostrictive materials, are revolutionizing industries from aerospace to biomedical engineering. The book highlights the potential to create adaptive systems, such as SMA-based actuators in robotics and piezoelectric sensors in medical devices, improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption. Did you know that the shape memory effect was first observed in the 1930s, marking the beginning of smart materials science? The book provides a comprehensive understanding of these materials, starting with the fundamental principles of how SMAs, piezoelectrics, and magnetostrictive materials work at the atomic level. It progresses through various applications and emerging trends, such as new alloy compositions and advanced manufacturing techniques. A unique aspect of the book is its focus on the practical considerations of using these responsive materials, addressing challenges like material selection and design optimization.

Shape Memory Composites Based on Polymers and Metals for 4D Printing is a thorough discussion of the physics and chemistry behind this developing area of materials science. It provides readers with a clear exposition of shape-memory-composite (SMC) preparation techniques for 3D and 4D printing processes and explains how intelligent manufacturing technology may be applied in fields such as robotics, construction, medical science, and smart sensors. The book covers fundamental background knowledge on the synthesis of shape memory polymers (SMPs) and shape memory alloys (SMAs), and additive manufacturing techniques. Polymers and metals and their roles in 4D printing are dealt with separately, and applications of 4D printing are treated in their own chapter. The different alloy compositions and nanoparticle fillers in polymer composites are examined in detail, along with the key mechanisms involved in their processing. Hybrid nanofillers and synergistic composite mixtures, which are either in extensive current use or have shown promising outcomes in the field of 4D printing, are thoroughly discussed. Differences between these novel SMCs and traditional metal alloys, organic and inorganic composites are presented, and means by which they can improve mechanical properties that are triggered by external sources like magnetic field, temperature, and pH of solvent, are set out. This book provides practitioners, industrial researchers, and scholars with a state-of-the-art overview of SMP/SMA synthesis, additive manufacturing, modification in synthesis of SMCs for 4D printing, and their likely future applications.

Afropolitanism And The Novel written by Ashleigh Harris and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-09 with Literary Criticism categories.

The place of the novel as a literary form in Africa is contested. Its colonial origins and its unaffordability for most Africans make it a bad fit for the continent, yet it was also central to the creation of most postcolonial African national literary canons. These bipolar traditions remain unresolved in recent debates about Afropolitanism and the novel in Africa today. This book extends this debate, arguing that Africa’s ‘de-realization’ in global representation and the global economy is reflected in the African novel becoming dominated by Afropolitan, rather than African, aesthetics, styles, and forms. Drawing on close readings of a variety of major African novels of the 2000s, the volume traces the tensions between the novel’s complicity with and resistance to such de-realization. The book argues that current trends and experiments in African non-realist genres, such as science fiction, magical and animist realism, Afro-futurism, and speculative environmentalism, are the result of a preoccupation with such de-realization. The volume is a significant exploration into literary form and its social, philosophical, political, and economic underpinnings. It will be a must-read for scholars, students, and researchers of African literature, politics, philosophy, and culture studies.

Handbook Of Liquid Metals written by Jing Liu and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-29 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This handbook systematically collects the latest scientific and technological knowledge on liquid metals obtained so far in this cutting edge frontier. Conventional materials such as metals, polymers, composites, ceramics and naturally derived matters, may not perform well when facing certain technological challenges. At around room temperature, most of such materials mainly stay at solid state and are often difficult to shape due to their high melting point. Meanwhile, although classical soft matters own good flexibility, their electrical conductivities including more behaviours appear not good enough which generally limited their utilizations. As a game-changing alternative, the room temperature liquid metal materials are quickly emerging as a new generation functional material which displayed many unconventional properties superior to traditional materials. Their outstanding versatile feature as “One material, diverse capabilities” is rather unique among existing materials and thus opens many exciting opportunities for scientific, technological and industrial developments. This handbook presents comprehensive reference information on liquid metal science and technology that are currently available. The major advancements as made before are collected and summarized. Representative liquid metal applications are illustrated. It helps readers obtain a comprehensive understanding of the technical progresses and fundamental discoveries in the frontier, and thus better explore and utilize liquid metal materials to address various challenging needs.

Of particular interest is how harnessing the power of lasers, electron beams, and electric arcs, as directed by advanced computer models, robots, and 3D printing systems, can create otherwise unattainable objects. A timeline depicting the evolution of metalworking, accelerated by the computer and information age, ties AM metal technology to the rapid evolution of global technology trends. Charts, diagrams, and illustrations complement the text to describe the diverse set of technologies brought together in the AM processing of metal. Extensive listing of terms, definitions, and acronyms provides the reader with a quick reference guide to the language of AM metal processing. The book directs the reader to a wealth of internet sites providing further reading and resources, such as vendors and service providers, to jump start those interested in taking the first steps to establishing AM metal capability on whatever scale. The appendix provides hands-on example exercises for those ready to engage in experiential self-directed learning.

Disruptive Technologies For The Militaries And Security written by Ajey Lele and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book debates and discusses the present and future of Disruptive Technologies in general and military Disruptive Technologies in particular. Its primary goal is to discuss various critical and advanced elucidations on strategic technologies. The focus is less on extrapolating the future of technology in a strict sense, and more on understanding the Disruptive Technology paradigm. It is widely accepted that technology alone cannot win any military campaign or war. However, technological superiority always offers militaries an advantage. More importantly, technology also has a great deterrent value. Hence, on occasion, technology can help to avoid wars. Accordingly, it is important to effectively manage new technologies by identifying their strategic utility and role in existing military architectures and the possible contributions they could make towards improving overall military capabilities. This can also entail doctrinal changes, so as to translate these new technologies into concrete advantages.

Now this may appear to be a complete science-fiction story on the outside, but it has a deeper meaning inside. This is the story of how the last known survivors of four sets of young sibling beings from a doomed planet were separated by fowl means by the evil antics of a manacle intergalactic warlord and his messed up and backstabbing crew as one set of four ended up on Earth and the other set of four were left to find their lost surviving siblings out somewhere in the vast reaches of space. In a two-thousand-year span, the two groups grew from acquaintances to a family as they learned that a family was stronger than an individual or just a team. The story goes from their past to the present as they figure out on how to survive in their new settings till the two families reunite after two thousand years apart as they join forces to protect earth and the universe from the same evil that has destroyed their home world. You will see just why these beings are considered “the most dangerous beings in the universe,” and it’s not the fact that they are evil, which they are not; it’s because evil knows that these are not the ones you want to mess with! And you will see that there is a society out in the stars that might appear to be of a far, far, far away intergalactic kingdom, but it’s nowhere near intelligent as Star Trek and nowhere near mystifying as Star Wars. And above that, you will learn what a Heart is, and it has nothing to do with expressing your love for someone or the main artery inside you; it’s an institution that works to protect others from any and all forms of evil.
