The field of knowledge management focuses on how organizations can most effectively store, manage, retrieve, and enlarge their intellectual properties. The repository view of knowledge management emphasizes the gathering, providing, and filtering of explicit knowledge. The information in a repository has the advantage of being easily transferable and reusable. But it is not easy to use decontextualized information, and users often need access to human experts. This book describes a more recent approach to knowledge management, which the authors call "expertise sharing." Expertise sharing emphasizes the human aspects -- cognitive, social, cultural, and organizational -- of knowledge management, in addition to information storage and retrieval. Rather than focusing on the management level of an organization, expertise sharing focuses on the self-organized activities of the organization's members. The book addresses the concerns of both researchers and practitioners, describing current literature and research as well as offering information on implementing systems. It consists of three parts: an introduction to knowledge sharing in large organizations; empirical studies of expertise sharing in different types of settings; and detailed descriptions of computer systems that can route queries, assemble people and work, and augment naturally occurring social networks within organizations.

This review examines the effectiveness of the World Bank's strategy to facilitate the sharing of development knowledge and information with client countries, as well as the institutional infrastructure put in place to implement it (including resources, governance and technology). Findings include that the Bank has made good progress in establishing the tools and activities to support its initiative, but it has not established adequate business processes and management responsibilities. The review recommends that the Bank take three sets of actions regarding: the need for greater strategic direction and oversight of the Bank's knowledge processes; linking knowledge-sharing activities to lending and non-lending processes; and setting outcome objectives and supporting programme performance indicators in accordance with agreed monitoring and evaluation procedures.

Sharing Knowledge & Cultural Heritage (SK & CH), First Nations of the Americas, testifies to the growing commitment of museum professionals in the twenty-first century to share collections with the descendants of people and communities from whom the collections originated. Thanks to collection histories and the documenting of relations with particular indigenous communities, it is well known that until as recently as the 1970s, museum doors - except for a handful of cases - were shut to indigenous peoples. This volume is the result of an ""expert meeting"" held in November 2007 at the National M ...

Professional Empowerment In The Software Industry Through Experience Driven Shared Tacit Knowledge written by Hui Chen and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-19 with Social Science categories.

This book addresses the identification and classification of knowledge acquired through experience that results from engaging in professional activities within the software industry. As a result of this study, the book presents an ontology of such professional activities that require and enable the acquisition of experience and that, in turn, are the basis for tacit knowledge creation. The rationale behind the creation of such an ontology was based on the need to externalize this tacit knowledge and then record such externalizations so that these can be shared and disseminated within and across organizations. The book discusses the very concise manner in which experienced software development practitioners in China understand the nature and value of experience in the SW industry, effectively communicate with other stakeholders in the software development process, are able and motivated to actively engage with continuous professional development, are able to share knowledge with peers and the profession at large, and effectively work on projects and exhibit a sound professional attitude both internally to their own company and externally to customers, partners, and even competitors. The book also discusses the ontology and the qualitative process that are generated by bridging two extremely topical aspects of practice in the software industry, namely, employability skills and competencies. The book is of interest to academics in the areas of knowledge management and information systems, as well as human resources practitioners concerned with selection and development and knowledge and information professionals in software organizations.

CAiSE 2008wasthe20thinthe seriesofInternationalConferencesonAdvanced Information System Engineering. This edition continued the success of previous conferences, a success largely due to that fact that, since its ?rst edition, this series has evolvedin parallelwith the evolutionofthe importance ofinformation systems in economic development. CAiSE has been able to follow, and often to anticipate, important changes that have occurred since 1978 when the ?rst CAiSE conference was organized by Arne Sølvberg and Janis Bubenko. In all these years, modern businesses and IT systems have been facing an ever more complex environment characterized by openness, variety and change. Furthermore, enterprises are experiencing ever more variety in their business in many dimensions. In the same way, the explosion of information technologies is overwhelming with a multitude of languages, platforms, devices, standards and products. Thus enterprises need to manage an environment to monitor the interplay of changes in the business processes, in information technologies, and at the ontological level, in order to achieve a sustainable development of their information systems. Enterprises must enter the era of sustainable information systems to face the important developmental challenges. During all these years, CAiSE researchers have been challenged by all these changes, andtheCAiSEconferencesprovideaforumforpresentinganddebating important scienti?c results. In fact, CAiSE is positioned at the core of these tumultuousprocesses, hostingnewemergingideas, fosteringinnovativeprocesses of design and evaluation, developing new information technologies adapted to information systems, creating new kinds of models, but always being subject to rigorous scienti?c selection.
