This book is a great asset for victims, support persons for victims, family members and others. This is particularly true since Shattered Family describes forms of abuse most would not be able to comprehend exist, such as the sociopaths predators ability to successfully use law enforcement and others in authority to abuse his victims and exercise complete control over his victim(s) life/lives. This book additionally offers a long real-life movie list as visual aid support. A must read for victims and those who wish to help victims of the sociopath and/or sociopath type abuser. These predators do this stuff. Wake up America and smell the garbage so many ignorant and uncaring minions are supporting. Savannah Rain spells it out in graphic detail that is sometimes hard to read and Im sure impossible to believe unless youve lived it and some of us have. So we know it is horrifyingly real. I recommend this book to victims and professionals who come into contact with victims in the worst ongoing moments of those victims lives. What I may have been spared if Id read this book many years ago. Survivor, no name for the public. I have previewed Rains book and found it to be enlightening and scary. I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for the signs and evaluating my life a little more carefully now. Some things have happened to me, in my relationship that never happened before in my 35 years in this world. I thought may have him manipulating things because of what I was told by others. Shattered Justice presents original crime victims' experiences with violent crime, investigations and trials, and later exonerations in their cases. Using in-depth interviews with 21 crime victims across the United States, Cook reveals how homicide victims’ family members and rape survivors describe the painful impact of the primary trauma, the secondary trauma of the investigations and trials, and then the tertiary trauma associated with wrongful convictions and exonerations. Important lessons and analyses are shared related to grief and loss, and healing and repair. Using restorative justice practices to develop and deliver healing retreats for survivors also expands the practice of restorative justice. During the past ten years, legal and political changes in the United States have dramatically altered the legalization process for millions of undocumented immigrants and their families. Faced with fewer legalization options, immigrants without legal status and their supporters have organized around the concept of the family as a political subject—a political subject with its rights violated by immigration laws. Drawing upon the idea of the “impossible activism” of undocumented immigrants, Amalia Pallares argues that those without legal status defy this “impossible” context by relying on the politicization of the family to challenge justice within contemporary immigration law. The culmination of a seven-year-long ethnography of undocumented immigrants and their families in Chicago, as well as national immigrant politics,Family Activism examines the three ways in which the family has become politically significant: as a political subject, as a frame for immigrant rights activism, and as a symbol of racial subordination and resistance. By analyzing grassroots campaigns, churches and interfaith coalitions, immigrant rights movements, and immigration legislation, Pallares challenges the traditional familial idea, ultimately reframing the family as a site of political struggle and as a basis for mobilization in immigrant communities.
