Shame is a subject many want to avoid. Believe me, from my own experience whatever pain it takes to journey through the process is so much better than staying stuck in an endless cycle that keeps you sick. The cloak of shame becomes our garment whether we did something shameful or something shameful was done to us. Shame is wrought with lies from the enemy and he uses those lies to rob us not only of our true identity but our destiny as well. It is amazingly possible to defeat the "shame game" as evidenced in Phillippians 4:13 which tells us "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us". This book will guide you on your personal journey of shedding shame as you renew your mind. It is designed to be used as a teaching tool, with teacher's notes and homework for each chapter. I hope you find freedom, as I did, when I walked through this same journey. It is so worth the process! Educated by the "school of hard knocks", Roxine knows a little bit about the shame game. She continues to be a seeker on her own journey and has answered the call to help others find hope in the inner healing process. Her efforts to help others includes speaking, co-facilitating women's soul woundedness groups, and teaching ladies Bible studies. Currently she is serving as a prayer minister, manages a prayer group for inner healing and co-leads a school of inner healing prayer through her church. Roxine lives in South Georgia with her husband Richard and their dog Lucy.

A licensed counselor shows how to stop saying you’re not good enough, let go of shame, and grab life by the horns. As you look at a newborn child, you become overwhelmed by his preciousness. Your heart is filled with love. Without doubt, you recognize that the child’s value was established at birth. The child’s value exists simply because he exists. You know with absolute certainty that this child—every child—can never be of lesser value. This child’s value simply is. This child is you. Abundant living is everyone’s birthright. Toxic shame can impede your ability to live abundantly, and The Shame Game offers you the tools to claim your inheritance. Although there have been books that address shame, healing shame, and abundant living, The Shame Game brings the three issues together in a more informative, readable, and concise manner than has ever been done. Janice gently guides you on a journey of self-awareness and healing, empowering you to rediscover your birth-created value. The Shame Game can set you free from the past, teach you to embrace the present, and open the door to an abundant future. Praise for The Shame Game “Janice Gaunt has highlighted the importance of acceptance and self-forgiveness in her first book, The Shame Game. It’s a remarkable performance.” —Skip Hollandsworth, executive editor, Texas Monthly “Shame is at the heart of many healthcare issues for women. Understanding how shame-based issues dictate our behaviors and relationships is important for women in order to be mentally and physically well. Shame is the underpinning of almost all distress, almost all emotional issues, almost all reluctance to claim your life fully. Knowing this, then you know that there is something you can do about it. Shame is what holds us back from self care, from discovering who we are and living it, from having boundaries around how we will interact with others. Releasing shame allows going from being a sheep to someone making their own decisions, who automatically lives with meaning and purpose. More than a glass half full, there is no glass. No external measure of goodness because it is all good. Sounds too good to be true? Walk with me through the shaming going on around us every day all day. See it for what it is so you can stop joining in. Stop shaming, refuse to be shamed, stop gossiping, stop criticizing. Instead seeing, and deciding the best course of action. And doing it. First we all need to rip ourselves loose from the control this dreadful emotion has on us. This book shows you the hundreds of ways shame influences our lives, and every one else's. The second section then walks through the process of healing ourselves from the harm caused. Shame can be put in its place, seen for what it is, and released from our cells.

What does the Bible say about periods? The average woman has 500 periods in her lifetime. And whether yours are mildly annoying, utterly debilitating or emotionally complicated, most of us have at one time or another asked: Why?! This warm, light-hearted, real, honest and at times surprising book gives a biblical perspective on menstruation, as well as a whole lot more. Beginning with periods, Rachel Jones takes readers on an adventure in theology, weaving together wide-ranging reflections on the nature of our bodies, the passing of time, the purpose of pain, and the meaning of life. One thing is for sure: you’ve never read a Christian book quite like this one. Whether you’re in need of hope and help, or are just downright curious, you’ll be refreshed and encouraged by this book. As Rachel puts it, “Whoever you are, my aim is that you reach the end of this book celebrating who God has made you, how God has saved you, and the fact that he speaks liberating and positive truth into all of life’s experiences (even periods)”.

#1 New York Times bestseller “Essential reading for anyone interested in understanding and treating traumatic stress and the scope of its impact on society.” —Alexander McFarlane, Director of the Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies A pioneering researcher transforms our understanding of trauma and offers a bold new paradigm for healing in this New York Times bestseller Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent over three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust. He explores innovative treatments—from neurofeedback and meditation to sports, drama, and yoga—that offer new paths to recovery by activating the brain’s natural neuroplasticity. Based on Dr. van der Kolk’s own research and that of other leading specialists, The Body Keeps the Score exposes the tremendous power of our relationships both to hurt and to heal—and offers new hope for reclaiming lives.

A TIMES BOOK OF THE YEAR Shame is being weaponized by governments and corporations to attack the most vulnerable. It's time to fight back Shame is a powerful and sometimes useful tool. When we publicly shame corrupt politicians, abusive celebrities, or predatory corporations, we reinforce values of fairness and justice. But as best-selling author Cathy O'Neil argues in this revelatory book, shaming has taken a new and dangerous turn. It is increasingly being weaponized -- used as a way to shift responsibility for social problems from institutions to individuals. Shaming children for not being able to afford school lunches or adults for not being able to find work lets us off the hook as a society. After all, why pay higher taxes to fund programmes for people who are fundamentally unworthy? O'Neil explores the machinery behind all this shame, showing how governments, corporations and the healthcare system capitalize on it. There are damning stories of rehab clinics, reentry programs, drug and diet companies, and social media platforms -- all of which profit from 'punching down' on the vulnerable. Woven throughout The Shame Machine is the story of O'Neil's own struggle with body image and her recent weight-loss surgery, which awakened her to the systematic shaming of fat people seeking medical care. With clarity and nuance, O'Neil dissects the relationship between shame and power. Whom does the system serve? How do current incentive structures perpetuate the shaming cycle? And, most important, how can we all fight back?

Jenny March’s acclaimed Dictionary of Classical Mythology, first published in 1998 but long out of print, has been extensively revised and expanded including a completely new set of beautiful line-drawing illustrations for this Oxbow edition. It is a comprehensive A – Z guide to Greek and Roman mythology. All major myths, legends and fables are here, including gods and goddesses, heroes and villains, dangerous women, legendary creatures and monsters. Characters such as Achilles and Odysseus have extensive entries, as do epic journeys and heroic quests, like that of Jason and the Argonauts to win the Golden Fleece, all alongside a plethora of information on the creation of the cosmos, the many metamorphoses of gods and humans, and the Trojan War, plus more minor figures – nymphs, seers, kings, rivers, to name but a few. In this superbly authoritative work the myths are brilliantly retold, along with any major variants, and with extensive translations from ancient authors that give life to the narratives and a sense of the vibrant cultures that shaped the development of classical myth. The 172 illustrations give visual immediacy to the words, by showing how ancient artists perceived their gods and heroes. The impact of myths on ancient art is also explored, as is and their influence in the postclassical arts, emphasising the ongoing inspiration afforded by the ancient myths. Also included are two maps of the ancient world, a list of the ancient sources and their chronology, the more important genealogies, and an index of recurrent mythical motifs.
