A comprehensive look at the newly built Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport designed by Fuksas Architects, with its pioneering, ecofriendly, and socially sound design. This is the first book to document the highly innovative Terminal 3 at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in China, scheduled for completion in 2013. Shenzhen is one of China's most important industrial locations as well as a very popular tourist destination in China. In 2008, the Italian architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas (M Fuksas) won the international competition for the extension of the airport with the design of Terminal 3. This book contains never-before-seen sketches, models, renderings, drawings, and all-new photography of the building as well as an interview with the architect. The terminal, which resembles an airplane from above, has been designed specifically to take into account environmental and socioeconomic factors. It is the first airport terminal certified to the National Green Building Star Label in China.

Learning From Shenzhen written by Mary Ann O'Donnell and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-07 with History categories.

This multidisciplinary volume, the first of its kind, presents an account of China’s contemporary transformation via one of its most important yet overlooked cities: Shenzhen, located just north of Hong Kong. In recent decades, Shenzhen has transformed from an experimental site for economic reform into a dominant city at the crossroads of the global economy. The first of China’s special economic zones, Shenzhen is today a UNESCO City of Design and the hub of China’s emerging technology industries. Bringing China studies into dialogue with urban studies, the contributors explore how the post-Mao Chinese appropriation of capitalist logic led to a dramatic remodeling of the Chinese city and collective life in China today. These essays show how urban villages and informal institutions enabled social transformation through cases of public health, labor, architecture, gender, politics, education, and more. Offering scholars and general readers alike an unprecedented look at one of the world’s most dynamic metropolises, this collective history uses the urban case study to explore critical problems and possibilities relevant for modern-day China and beyond.

Building The Architect S Character written by Kendra Schank Smith and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-22 with Architecture categories.

An understanding of architects’ character traits can offer important insights into how they design buildings. These traits include leadership skills necessary to coordinate a team, honest and ethical behavior, being well educated and possessing a life-long love of learning, flexibility, resourcefulness, and visionary and strategic thinking. Characteristics such as these describe a successful person. Architects also possess these traits, but they have additional skills specifically valuable for the profession. These will include the ability to question the use of digital media, new materials, processes, and methods to convey meaning in architectural form. Although not exhaustive, a discussion of such subjects as defining, imaging, persuading, and fabricating will reveal representational meaning useful for the development of an understanding of architects’ character. Through the analogies and metaphors found in Greek myth, the book describes the elusive, hard-to-define characteristics of architects to engage the dilemmas of a changing architectural landscape. Building the Architect’s Character: Explorations in Traits examines traditional and archetypal characteristics of the successful architect to ask if they remain relevant today.
