Shepherds of the Flock is intended to help equip fellow elders and elder chairmen with wisdom God has graciously given the author through the word, experience, and other godly people. Shepherds of the Flock is divided into three sections depending on where an individual is in their service as elder. The first section, “A Shepherd’s Character,” is the baseline biblical context for qualifications to serve as an elder and provides tips for serving. This section is a good reminder for an experienced elder and a good starting point for a new elder, perhaps serving for the first time. The second section, “A Shepherd’s Work: Shepherding the Flock,” is a challenge to focus on the 1 Peter 5:2 mandate to shepherd those in our congregations and provides some useful tools on how to do that effectively. The final section, “Shepherding the Shepherds,” focuses on elders encouraging and shepherding fellow elders, whether in the role of chairman or as a co-laborer for the Lord. Anthony Tako’s prayer is that this book, combined with the practical discussion guides at the end of each chapter, will be a useful equipping tool for the encouragement and effectiveness of elders and church leaders.

The Shepherd-Flock Motif in the Miletus Discourse (Acts 20:17-38) Against Its Historical Background provides a comprehensive survey of the use of the shepherd-flock motif in the ancient world for the readers of the New Testament. This review of Ancient Near Eastern, Jewish, Greco-Roman, and Christian sources is guided by a motific approach that integrates the concept of metaphor, Semantics, and the comparative method. A chief concern of this study is to apply this knowledge to the study of Luke-Acts, especially the Miletus Discourse (Acts 20:17-38). The shepherd-flock motif appears to be central in this speech and helps to integrate other motifs and themes in this discourse, such as the kingship motif. The Shepherd-Flock Motif in the Miletus Discourse (Acts 20:17-38) Against Its Historical Background is indispensable to the study of motifs in the New Testament and contributes meaningfully to the scholarly research on Luke-Acts.

Visions Of Statesmanship written by David Hansen and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-12 with Philosophy categories.

In Visions of Statesmanship: A Statesman’s Imagination and Autonomy, David Hansen provides a critical examination of the figure of the statesman as it has been presented in the philosophical reflections of three key thinkers: Plato, Yannis Markrygiannis, and Cornelius Castoriadis. In the course of the analysis, the chapters broadly investigate and assess the complex reception history that obtains among this particular configuration of intellectual history by offering authors, activists and texts linked to critical, political, and social theory in German, French, and Anglo-American contexts. The focus falls on the imagination (variously conceived) and notions of autonomy, and how these ideals potentially confront specific conditions of political and social reality. What emerges across the millennia, is an episodic account of dialectical encounters between freedom and unfreedom, how philosophical endeavors discern alternatives that raise consciousness of societal possibilities that challenge realities with the aim of changing practices of domination, oppression, and exploitation. Rather than regard intellectual and literary labor as ideological reflections of the material base, Hansen considers to what extent these free works of the imagination offer concrete visions that would increase justice, communal harmony, and global peace historical contingencies and limitations.

Children born today in the Maldives may someday have to abandon their homeland. Rising seas, caused by climate change, could swallow most of their tiny island nation within their lifetime. Their fate symbolizes the double inequity at the heart of climate change: those who have contributed the least to climate change will suffer the most from it. All is not lost, however. The scale and impact of climate change depends on the policies that people choose. How quickly will we eliminate our greenhouse gas emissions? How will we do it? Who will pay for it? What will we protect through adaptation? How will we weigh the fortunes of future generations and the natural world against our own? Answers to questions like these reflect a constellation of value judgments that deserve close scrutiny. In addition to providing essential background on the science, economics, and politics of climate change, this book explores the values at stake in climate policy with the aim of shrinking the gap between climate ethics and climate policy.
