Concurrent Engineering is based on the concept that different phases of a product life cycle should be conducted concurrently and initiated as early as possible within the Product Creation Process (PCP). Its main goal is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the PCP and reduce errors in the later stages, and to incorporate considerations for the full lifecycle, through-life operations, and environmental issues of the product. It has become the substantive basic methodology in many industries, and the initial basic concepts have matured and become the foundation of many new ideas, methodologies, initiatives, approaches and tools. This book presents the proceedings of the 24th ISPE Inc. International Conference on Transdisciplinary (formerly: Concurrent) Engineering (TE 2017), held in Singapore, in July 2017. The 120 peer-reviewed papers in the book are divided into 16 sections: air transport and traffic operations and management; risk-aware supply chain intelligence; product innovation and marketing management; human factors in design; human engineering; design methods and tools; decision supporting tools and methods; concurrent engineering; knowledge-based engineering; collaborative engineering; engineering for sustainability; service design; digital manufacturing; design automation; artificial intelligence and data analytics; smart systems and the Internet of Things. The book provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in transdisciplinary concurrent engineering research and applications, and will be of interest to researchers, design practitioners and educators working in the field.

Addressing the big questions about how technological change is transforming economies and societies Rapid technological change—likely to accelerate as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic—is reshaping economies and how they grow. But change also causes disruption, creates winners and losers, and produces social stress. This book examines the challenges of digital transformation and suggests how creative policies can make it more productive and inclusive. Shifting Paradigms is the second book on technological change produced by a joint research project of the Brookings Institution and the Korea Development Institute. Contributors are experts from the United States, Europe, and Korea. The first volume, Growth in a Time of Change, was published by Brookings in February 2020. The book's underlying thesis is that the future is arriving faster than expected. Long-accepted paradigms about economic growth are changing as digital technologies transform markets and nearly every aspect of business and work. Change will only intensify with advances in artificial intelligence and other innovations. Investors, business leaders, workers, and public officials face many questions. Is rising market concentration inevitable with the new technologies or can their benefits be more widely shared? How can the promise of FinTech be captured while managing risks? Should workers fear the new automation? Are technology-driven shifts in business and work causing income inequality to rise? How should public policy respond? Shifting Paradigms addresses these questions in an engaging manner for anyone interested in understanding how the economic and social agenda is being transformed by today's winds of change.

Shifting Paradigms In International Investment Law written by Steffen Hindelang and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-21 with Law categories.

International investment law is in transition. Whereas the prevailing mindset has always been the protection of the economic interests of individual investors, new developments in international investment law have brought about a paradigm shift. There is now more than ever before an interest in a more inclusive, transparent, and public regime. Shifting Paradigms in International Investment Law addresses these changes against the background of the UNCTAD framework to reform investment treaties. The book analyses how the investment treaty regime has changed and how it ought to be changing to reconcile private property interests and the state's duty to regulate in the public interest. In doing so, the volume tracks attempts in international investment law to recalibrate itself towards a more balanced, less isolated, and increasingly diversified regime. The individual chapters of this edited volume address the contents of investment agreements, the system of dispute settlement, the interrelation of investment agreements with other areas of public international law, constitutional questions, and new regional perspectives from Europe, South Africa, the Pacific Rim Region, and Latin America. Together they provide an invaluable resource for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
