Written by an author who has devoted the past twenty-five years ofhis life to studying and designing shock wave engines, this uniquebook offers comprehensive coverage of the theory and practice ofshock wave engine design. The only book treating the completepreliminary design of shock wave engines, it provides engineerswith practical step-by-step guidelines applicable to the design andconstruction of small, light- weight, low-powered industrialturbines as well as high performance jet aircraft engines. In his discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of shockwave versus other types of combustion engines, Dr. Weberdemonstrates how and why shock wave engines can be made to workmore efficiently than conventional gas turbines. Among otherthings, he shows quantitatively why combustion temperatures can besignificantly higher in shock wave engines than conventional gasturbines. He evaluates temperatures of moving parts in terms ofcombustion and engine inlet temperatures, and explores the effectof shock coalescence, expansion fan reflections and intersectionson port sizes and locations. And throughout, real and imaginedperformance problems are posed and proven solutions given for shockwave engines--alone and in conjunction with conventional gasturbines or reciprocating internal combustion engines. Designed to function as a practical guide, Shock Wave Engine Designoffers concise step-by-step design techniques in a readily usableformat. Engineers will find precise, detailed directions on suchessentials as how to size wave rotor blade lengths and heights andthe correct rotor diameter for a specified power, and materialselection for rotor and stator. Shock Wave Compression Of Condensed Matter written by Jerry W Forbes and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-01 with Science categories.

This book introduces the core concepts of the shock wave physics of condensed matter, taking a continuum mechanics approach to examine liquids and isotropic solids. The text primarily focuses on one-dimensional uniaxial compression in order to show the key features of condensed matter’s response to shock wave loading. The first four chapters are specifically designed to quickly familiarize physical scientists and engineers with how shock waves interact with other shock waves or material boundaries, as well as to allow readers to better understand shock wave literature, use basic data analysis techniques, and design simple 1-D shock wave experiments. This is achieved by first presenting the steady one-dimensional strain conservation laws using shock wave impedance matching, which insures conservation of mass, momentum and energy. Here, the initial emphasis is on the meaning of shock wave and mass velocities in a laboratory coordinate system. An overview of basic experimental techniques for measuring pressure, shock velocity, mass velocity, compression and internal energy of steady 1-D shock waves is then presented. In the second part of the book, more advanced topics are progressively introduced: thermodynamic surfaces are used to describe equilibrium flow behavior, first-order Maxwell solid models are used to describe time-dependent flow behavior, descriptions of detonation shock waves in ideal and non-ideal explosives are provided, and lastly, a select group of current issues in shock wave physics are discussed in the final chapter.

Transition Location Effect On Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction written by Piotr Doerffer and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-30 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book presents experimental and numerical findings on reducing shock-induced separation by applying transition upstream the shock wave. The purpose is to find out how close to the shock wave the transition should be located in order to obtain favorable turbulent boundary layer interaction. The book shares findings obtained using advanced flow measurement methods and concerning e.g. the transition location, boundary layer characteristics, and the detection of shock wave configurations. It includes a number of experimental case studies and CFD simulations that offer valuable insights into the flow structure. It covers RANS/URANS methods for the experimental test section design, as well as more advanced techniques, such as LES, hybrid methods and DNS for studying the transition and shock wave interaction in detail. The experimental and numerical investigations presented here were conducted by sixteen different partners in the context of the TFAST Project. The general focus is on determining if and how it is possible to improve flow performance in comparison to laminar interaction. The book mainly addresses academics and professionals whose work involves the aerodynamics of internal and external flows, as well as experimentalists working with compressible flows. It will also be of benefit for CFD developers and users, and for students of aviation and propulsion systems alike.

This report summarizes work performed by Ramgen and subcontractors in pursuit of the design and construction of a 10 MW supersonic CO2 compressor and supporting facility. The compressor will demonstrate application of Ramgen's supersonic compression technology at an industrial scale using CO2 in a closed-loop. The report includes details of early feasibility studies, CFD validation and comparison to experimental data, static test experimental results, compressor and facility design and analyses, and development of aerodynamic tools. A summary of Ramgen's ISC Engine program activity is also included. This program will demonstrate the adaptation of Ramgen's supersonic compression and advanced vortex combustion technology to result in a highly efficient and cost effective alternative to traditional gas turbine engines. The build out of a 1.5 MW test facility to support the engine and associated subcomponent test program is summarized.

Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Working knowledge of the relations of various quantities and their derivatives across a shock wave is useful for any advanced research involving shock waves. Although these relations can be derived in principle by any diligent student of the subject, the derivations are often not trivial, and once derived, neither the approach nor the result can be confidently verified. Comprehensive and analytical, Shock Wave Dynamics: Derivatives and Related Topics includes not only the final results but also the methods, which are of great practical value as examples of mathematical procedure in this field. The book focuses on shock wave derivatives under various conditions and extensively covers shock-generated vorticity, including a novel analysis of triple points. Special care is given to the presentation of assumptions, implementation requirements, and the illustrative examples included for partial verification of the preceding analysis. Designed both as a research monograph and for self study, Shock Wave Dynamics is a complete discussion of shock wave dynamics. An analytical exploration of shock wave phenomena, it will be interesting reading for experts in the field of high-speed gas dynamics. Given today's emphasis on numerical simulation, it will also be of interest to computational engineers as a source for code verification and validation.
