Shooting In The Wild written by Chris Palmer and has been published by ReadHowYouWant.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10 with Nature categories.

Longtime producer Palmer provides an in-depth look at wild animals on film, covering the history of wildlife documentaries, safety issues, and the never-ending pressure to obtain the money shot. Marlin Perkins, Jacques Cousteau, Steve Irwin, Timothy Treadwell, and many other familiar names are discussed along with their work, accidents, and in some cases, untimely deaths. Palmer is highly critical of Irwin, and offers fascinating revelations about game farms used by exploitative filmmakers and photographers looking for easy shots and willing to use caged animals to obtain them. He also considers the subliminal messages of many wildlife films, considering everything from Shark Week to Happy Feet and how they manipulate audiences toward preset conclusions about animal behavior. In all this is an engaging and exceedingly timely look at a form of entertainment the public has long taken for granted and which, as Palmer points out, really needs a fresh and careful reconsideration.

In 1920s colonial Burma, the disillusioned Englishman John Flory struggles to navigate life in a small British outpost. Isolated and resentful of the corruption around him, he befriends the ambitious Burmese doctor Veraswami, whose fate depends on being accepted by the ruling Europeans. When Elizabeth Lackersteen, a young Englishwoman, arrives in town, Flory sees a chance for love and escape from his loneliness—but his hopes are soon threatened by racial tensions, social expectations, and the scheming of a ruthless magistrate. A searing critique of British colonialism, Burmese Days exposes the moral decay at the heart of empire. George Orwell’s sharp prose and unflinching realism paint a world where power is maintained through cruelty, and where those who challenge the status quo risk losing everything. A novel of disillusionment and tragic inevitability, it remains a haunting exploration of oppression, identity, and the cost of complicity. GEORGE ORWELL was born in India in 1903 and passed away in London in 1950. As a journalist, critic, and author, he was a sharp commentator on his era and its political conditions and consequences.

The figure of the white hunter sahib proudly standing over the carcass of a tiger with a gun in hand is one of the most powerful and enduring images of the empire. This book examines the colonial politics that allowed British imperialists to indulge in such grand posturing as the rulers and protectors of indigenous populations. This work studies the history of hunting and conservation in colonial India during the high imperial decades of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At this time, not only did hunting serve as a metaphor for colonial rule signifying the virile sportsmanship of the British hunter, but it also enabled vital everyday governance through the embodiment of the figure of the officer–hunter–administrator. Using archival material and published sources, the author examines hunting and wildlife conservation from various social and ethnic perspectives, and also in different geographical contexts, extending our understanding of the link between shikar and governance.
