She decides to pack up her belongings and return to her family's cottage on Pine Island. She is surprised to discover that her old buddy, Andrew, still spends every summer across the river on Brown's Island, where he spent his youth with his family. The two had always spent their childhoods playing, fishing and enjoying the tranquility of island life as children. Once again, they share time enjoying the love of the great north. Julia had left for college over two decades ago, to make a life for herself working on the plutonium ground water cleanup project left from the atomic bomb processing, at the Hanford Nuclear Site in Richland, Washington. There she had made a life for herself; not returning to the island she loved so much. Destiny forced her to reevaluate her life and priorities encompassing many changes in attitudes and lifestyle. Seeing the woman in slight distress although Logan has offered her a meal, a shower and clothing, Doctor Shiles insists they discuss her issues back at his office. The halls of the institution are not the only things in this short story that have exceptional twists and turns. Be ready for an outstanding mind warp as you read page by page in “Salvaged Quietude.” You never know what, or who, is next in line to come up missing, dead, or more. You will follow Moonheart’s quest to protect True Wind at any cost, even if it means denying her destiny. Another fire ensues and this young man, Cannibal is the lone survivor. When he awakens, he is driven by the notion that he must go to Oberlin, Kansas and meet a man. On his hospital bed, someone leaves a record from the Sewer Ratz. He doesn’t think twice and heads to Oberlin, Kansas. Now that Cannibal is in Oberlin and meets Rat. And the two find themselves being riddled with odd people who keep saying in one or way or another that they have to get to Jersey City, New Jersey. The old rocker and the new rocker head off to Jersey City, not knowing what will happen when they get there. Yet, they want answers and they can’t shake the feeling they have to go.
