Poor Choices is a short story about an intelligent man named Dan who works retail. Dan has a lot of talents and a good education, but he is prone to making bad choices that keep him from really having the type of life that he wants. He works at a company called Game Swap, which is a used video game store not unlike ones you see in the mini-malls across America. The story takes real life inspiration from working at a video game retail store and all the annoyances that come from working within that corporate structure. The focal point of the story isn't retail life itself though, but more the feelings of the main character Dan. There are many people who can relate to the type of character Dan is. He feels like he can do so much more with his life, but the worries over paying the bills and making sure things stay normal keep him within this box. He is much like many twenty-something's who are trying to find their place in the world and figure out exactly where they want to end up. Dan wants to answer all the question marks about his future, but will the poor choices he is prone to making keep him from doing so? Short Story Press Presents Seven Roads To Love by Christine Tanner “Seven Roads to Love” is a story that is close to Christine’s heart. It is actually the true story of how her and her soon-to-be husband met. Not only are the feelings real; but the events happened as stated in the writing. It was a feeling of almost true love when she met this man and, oftentimes, they still wonder how they really ever got together. Everything happened so quickly; but the fact of the matter is that through everything they have done, it always seems like they have known each other for years. He does have a cat named ‘Seven’ and the idea for the title was when Christine was looking at the cat who was trying to get her attention. She’s a real sweet cat; but the fact that the number happened to be the same amount of relationships she had tried previously made it a must for a title. She has dreams of a forbidden love but can’t focus on those dreams when she can’t even buy her son’s medicine. She has a real knack for staying calm under pressure, and steadfastly does what she needs to in order to keep food on their table and a roof over their heads. One day she has an encounter with a woman who claims she can change Mary’s life in an instant. After a strange dream that seems like a sign, Mary meets her mystery woman, who offers her a strange deal. From there, Mary is taken on a whirlwind ride that threatens to crack her reality in two. She’s taken “behind the curtain” into a world she never dreamed could imagine – a world where nightmarish chaos is only kept at bay by a small few – and now they want her to be one of them. It seems like the opportunity of a lifetime, but will Mary be willing to sacrifice her own values and those she’s trying to teach to her son in order to get them a better life?
