Institutions and their history matter; and not only because they are crucial elements in explaining a country’s socio-political evolution, but also as determinant factors of economic development, wealth and prosperity. Usually, the history of institutions has been taught the point of view of legal science, an approach that made the topic little attractive and often difficult to assimilate for students of other fields such as Economics, Business Studies, Marketing and others. No cabe duda de que las instituciones y su historia importan, no ya como elemento fundamental a la hora de explicar la evolución sociopolítica de un país, sino como factor determinante del desarrollo económico, el bienestar y la prosperidad. Tradicionalmente, la historia de las instituciones se ha venido explicando en España desde un enfoque eminentemente jurídico, planteamiento que ha hecho que la materia resultase poco atractiva y de difícil asimilación a los estudiantes de áreas afines como la Economía, ADE, Marketing y similares. Es precisamente a estos colectivos a quienes va dirigido de forma preferente este libro en el que se presenta, a la par rigurosa y amena, una visión sucinta y adecuadamente contextualizada de la evolución de las instituciones españolas desde los primeros asentamientos humanos en la Península hasta la actualidad. Para ello, en cada capítulo se combinan la exposición del contexto histórico de un período, con la descripción de sus instituciones más características y la explicación de la historia de los símbolos de España (la bandera, los sucesivos escudos, sus condecoraciones, etcétera).
