The Reformation is often alluded to as Gutenberg’s child. Could it then be said that the Counter-Reformation was his step-child? The close relationship between the Reformation, the printing press and books has received extensive, historiographical attention, which is clearly justified; however, the links between books and the Catholic world have often been limited to a tale of censorship and repression. The current volume looks beyond this, with a series of papers that aim to shed new light on the complex relationships between Catholicism and books during the early modern period, before and after the religious schism, with special focus on trade, common reads and the mechanisms used to control readership in different territories, together with the similarities between the Catholic and the Protestant worlds. "This collection of essays invites the contemporary reader to consider the works of Pedro Calderon de la Barca (1600-81), who became the most important and influential dramatist of the second period of the Spanish Golden Age, just as Lope de Vega (1562-1635) was for the preceding generation. La relación del hombre con los bienes y las cosas, en forma de dominio o propiedad, ha sufrido constantes mutaciones conforme ha ido desarrollándose la historia. Dominio y apropiación, ambos conceptos connaturales al ser humano, explican a lo largo de seis trabajos la evolución de la sociedad entre los siglos XV y XVII desde el abordaje de las fuentes jurisprudenciales castellanas. El objeto de estudio es mostrar cómo la doctrina de los jurisperitos castellanos durante dos siglos clásicos en la señorial y corporativa Corona de Castilla pretende dar forma jurídica al dominio y propiedad, mayoritariamente vinculada, amortizada y en manos de sucesivas corporaciones. No es de extrañar que en sus representaciones doctrinales estos juristas se preguntaran por el origen de la propiedad, así como que inquirieran cuál era su naturaleza, si meramente de derecho positivo humano, o si hundía sus raíces en derechos que ofrecían más garantías, supuesto del derecho divino, natural y de gentes. También se cuestionaron las especies de dominio, un dominio entonces dividido en directo y otro útil, lo que suponía un alejamiento de la posterior propiedad privada plena. Otra de las grandes preguntas fue el porqué de las amortizaciones y vinculaciones que impedían de modo virulento la libertad de compraventa. La usucapión y la prescripción, por su parte, en un mundo donde primaba la costumbre sobre lo escrito, fue el principal instrumento jurídico de adquisición y enajenación del dominio y propiedad sobre los bienes y las cosas.
