Jack the Ripper was a serial killer active in the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. There were five 'canonical' murders of an unusually brutal nature. What makes the grisly saga of Jack the Ripper so enduringly famous and fascinating is that the case was never solved. To this day people are still coming up with new suspects and trying to solve this most famous of cases. The Ripper was not only lethal but remarkably clever or lucky at remaining undetected. This killer was definitely not someone you would wish to meet on a dark and misty Whitechapel night. In the book that follows we'll take a look at Ripper suspects and attempt to gauge who is credible and who isn't to see if we can make any sense of this most puzzling (not to mention harrowing) unsolved true crime case.

The Politics Of Sorrow written by Daniel D. Martin and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-24 with Social Science categories.

Drawing on several years of research with grief support organizations and the families and friends of murdered children, this book examines the emotional experience of families in the aftermath of a homicide. It examines the politics of sorrow, offering a comparative analysis of White and African-American families as they navigate the experience of homicide, shedding light on the ways in which the class location or ethnicity of mourners affects their experience. Analyzing the manner in which police and other authorities differentially extend emotional support to bereaved families, notify them of a homicide, or assign blame, The Politics of Sorrow reveals how 'disenfranchised grief' comes to be an institutionalized outcome of their practice. The book further examines the effects of 'announcement shock' and the importance to the family of the moral career of the deceased, as they seek to manage his or her identity, often dealing with their grief through an active pursuit of justice in court, or through political involvement with a grief support organization, which mobilizes families in pursuit of its political ends. A rigorous study of stigma, identity, and stratified experiences of grief, The Politics of Sorrow will appeal to sociologists interested in interactionist methods, race, class, and emotion.

Chaos and order clash in this riveting exploration of crime and punishment on the Internet. Once considered a borderless and chaotic virtual landscape, the Internet is now home to the forces of international law and order. It’s not just computer hackers and cyber crooks who lurk in the dark corners of the Web—the cops are there, too. In The Internet Police, Ars Technica deputy editor Nate Anderson takes readers on a behind-the-screens tour of landmark cybercrime cases, revealing how criminals continue to find digital and legal loopholes even as police hurry to cinch them closed. From the Cleveland man whose "natural male enhancement" pill inadvertently protected the privacy of your e-mail to the Russian spam king who ended up in a Milwaukee jail to the Australian arrest that ultimately led to the breakup of the largest child pornography ring in the United States, Anderson draws on interviews, court documents, and law-enforcement reports to reconstruct accounts of how online policing actually works. Questions of online crime are as complex and interconnected as the Internet itself. With each episode in The Internet Police, Anderson shows the dark side of online spaces—but also how dystopian a fully "ordered" alternative would be. Includes an afterword that details law enforcement's dramatic seizure of the online black market Silk Road.

Hilbert Huang Transform And Its Applications written by Norden Eh Huang and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Mathematics categories.

The HilbertOCoHuang Transform (HHT) represents a desperate attempt to break the suffocating hold on the field of data analysis by the twin assumptions of linearity and stationarity. Unlike spectrograms, wavelet analysis, or the WignerOCoVille Distribution, HHT is truly a time-frequency analysis, but it does not require an a priori functional basis and, therefore, the convolution computation of frequency. The method provides a magnifying glass to examine the data, and also offers a different view of data from nonlinear processes, with the results no longer shackled by spurious harmonics OCo the artifacts of imposing a linearity property on a nonlinear system or of limiting by the uncertainty principle, and a consequence of Fourier transform pairs in data analysis. This is the first HHT book containing papers covering a wide variety of interests. The chapters are divided into mathematical aspects and applications, with the applications further grouped into geophysics, structural safety and visualization.
