Simulation Based Engineering In Solid Mechanics written by J.S. Rao and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-03 with Science categories.

This book begins with a brief historical perspective of the advent of rotating machinery in 20th century Solid Mechanics and the development of the discipline of the Strength of Materials. High Performance Computing (HPC) and Simulation Based Engineering Science (SBES) have gradually replaced the conventional approach in Design bringing science directly into engineering without approximations. A recap of the required mathematical principles is given. The science of deformation, strain and stress at a point under the application of external traction loads is next presented. Only one-dimensional structures classified as Bars (axial loads), Rods (twisting loads) and Beams (bending loads) are considered in this book. The principal stresses and strains and von Mises stress and strain that used in design of structures are next presented. Lagrangian solution was used to derive the governing differential equations consistent with assumed deformation field and solution for deformations, strains and stresses were obtained. The finite element method most suitable for HPC is derived and the corresponding stiffness matrix for the element is derived. Assembling procedure of these matrices is then described to obtain the system matrices. Worked examples and exercises are given in each chapter. This book brings SBES at entry level allowing young students to quickly adapt to modern design practices.

Simulation Based Mechanical Design written by Xiaobin Le and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-30 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book establishes a modern practical approach to mechanical design. It introduces a full set of mechanical design theories and approaches to conduct and complete mechanical design tasks. The book uses Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) as a mechanical engineering tool to calculate stress/strain and then integrate it with failure theory to complete the mechanical design. FEA simulation always evaluates the stress and strain of any component/assembly no matter whether components/assemblies have complicated geometries and/or are under complicated loading conditions.

Simulation-Based Engineering and Science (SBE&S) cuts across disciplines, showing tremendous promise in areas from storm prediction and climate modeling to understanding the brain and the behavior of numerous other complex systems. In this groundbreaking volume, nine distinguished leaders assess the latest research trends, as a result of 52 site visits in Europe and Asia and hundreds of hours of expert interviews, and discuss the implications of their findings for the US government. The authors conclude that while the US remains the quantitative leader in SBE&S research and development, it is very much in danger of losing that edge to Europe and Asia. Commissioned by the National Science Foundation, this multifaceted study will capture the attention of Fortune 500 companies and policymakers.

Virtual Design And Validation written by Peter Wriggers and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-03 with Science categories.

This book provides an overview of the experimental characterization of materials and their numerical modeling, as well as the development of new computational methods for virtual design. Its 17 contributions are divided into four main sections: experiments and virtual design, composites, fractures and fatigue, and uncertainty quantification. The first section explores new experimental methods that can be used to more accurately characterize material behavior. Furthermore, it presents a combined experimental and numerical approach to optimizing the properties of a structure, as well as new developments in the field of computational methods for virtual design. In turn, the second section is dedicated to experimental and numerical investigations of composites, with a special focus on the modeling of failure modes and the optimization of these materials. Since fatigue also includes wear due to frictional contact and aging of elastomers, new numerical schemes in the field of crack modeling and fatigue prediction are also discussed. The input parameters of a classical numerical simulation represent mean values of actual observations, though certain deviations arise: to illustrate the uncertainties of parameters used in calculations, the book’s final section presents new and efficient approaches to uncertainty quantification.
