Silicon Organic Hybrid Platform For Photonic Integrated Circuits written by Korn, Dietmar and has been published by KIT Scientific Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-29 with Technology (General) categories.

We study the potential of the silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) platform for integrated optics. The unique properties of selected organic materials are added to silicon devices made with CMOS-based processes. We investigate the feasibility of this approach by making prototypes of key components in form of photonic integrated circuits: SOH lasers and SOH modulators are designed, fabricated, post-processed, and characterized. Application scenarios are identified.

In this book, the first high-speed silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) modulator is demonstrated by exploiting a highly-nonlinear polymer cladding and a silicon waveguide. By using a liquid crystal cladding instead, an ultra-low power phase shifter is obtained. A third type of device is proposed for achieving three-wave mixing on the silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) platform. Finally, new physical constants which describe the optical absorption in charge accumulation/inversion layers in silicon are determined.

Since publication of the 1st edition in 2002, there has been a deep evolution of the global communication network with the entry of submarine cables in the Terabit era. Thanks to optical technologies, the transmission on a single fiber can achieve 1 billion simultaneous phone calls across the ocean! Modern submarine optical cables are fueling the global internet backbone, surpassing by far all alternative techniques. This new edition of Undersea Fiber Communication Systems provides a detailed explanation of all technical aspects of undersea communications systems, with an emphasis on the most recent breakthroughs of optical submarine cable technologies. This fully updated new edition is the best resource for demystifying enabling optical technologies, equipment, operations, up to marine installations, and is an essential reference for those in contact with this field. Each chapter of the book is written by key experts of their domain. The book assembles in a complementary way the contributions of authors from key suppliers acting in the domain, such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, NEC, TE-Subcom, Xtera, from consultant and operators such as Axiom, OSI, Orange, and from University and organization references such as TelecomParisTech, and Suboptic. This has ensured that the overall topics of submarine telecommunications is treated in a quite ecumenical, complete and un-biased approach. - Features new content on: Ultra-long haul submarine transmission technologies for telecommunications / Alternative submarine cable applications, such as scientific or oil and gas - Addresses the development of high-speed networks for multiplying Internet and broadband services with: Coherent optical technology for 100Gbit/s channels or above / Wet plant optical networking and configurability - Provides a full overview of the evolution of the field conveys the strategic importance of large undersea projects with: Technical and organizational life cycle of a submarine network / Upgrades of amplified submarine cables by coherent technology

Space Photonic Communications written by Le Nguyen Binh and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-29 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book explores the extension of fiber optic communications technology to space optical communications. It presents the specific demands for space communications and examines propagation in a vacuum and also over the turbulence of air‐free space. Space Photonic Communications begins with historical aspects of optical communications in both terrestrial and inter‐satellite constellations. It presents the advances in optical communications and integrated photonics that have enabled the technological developments for space photonic communications, especially coherent optical communications to transport Tbps information. The author discusses how the transmission of massive amounts of data over very long distances requires Tera‐bps communications in real time for both military and civil applications. The author also explores laser communications with the physics of laser propagation over ultra‐long distances without optical amplifications at intermediate locations. He also examines modulation and receiving techniques for space photonic communications. Intended for communications engineers and professionals, especially those in laser communication technologies, this book could also be used in courses on advanced optical communications, photonic communications, and communication techniques and technologies.

The Supercontinuum Laser Source written by Robert R. Alfano and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-01 with Science categories.

This book, now in its fourth edition, is a well-known classic on the ultrafast nonlinear and linear processes responsible for supercontinuum generation. The book begins with chapters reviewing the experimental and theoretical understanding of the field along with key applications developed since the discovery of the supercontinuum effect. The chapters that follow cover recent research activity on supercontinuum phenomena, novel applications, and advances achieved since the publication of the previous edition. The new chapters focus on: filamentation in gases, air, and condensed media; conical emission by four-wave mixing and X-waves; electronic self-phase mechanism; higher harmonics generation; attosecond laser pulses; complex vector beam supercontinuum; higher order self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation; nonlinear supercontinuum interference in uniaxial crystals; new nonlinear microscopes involving supercontinuum and ultrafast lasers with biomedical applications; and other current supercontinuum applications in communications. The Supercontinuum Laser Source is a definitive work by one of the discoverers of the white light effect. It is indispensable reading for any researcher or student working in the field of ultrafast laser physics. Ultrahigh Speed Optical Transmission Technology written by Hans-Georg Weber and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-12-28 with Science categories.

Ultrahigh-speed optical transmission technology is a key technology for increasing the communication capacity. In optical fibre networks, the number of wavelength channels and the bit rate per wavelength channel, i.e. the TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) bit rate, determine the transmission capacity. Currently, TDM bit rates of more than 40 Gbit/s require optical signal processing (Optical Time Division Multiplexing, OTDM). OTDM bit rates of up to 1.2 Tbit/s have already been reported. The devices developed for ultrahigh-speed optical transmission are not limited to communication applications only. They are key devices for high-speed optical signal processing, i.e. monitoring, measurement and control, and will thus give a wide technological basis for innovative science and technology. All these aspects of ultrahigh-speed optical transmission technology are described in detail in this book.

Photonic Wire Bonding As A Novel Technology For Photonic Chip Interfaces written by Lindenmann, Nicole and has been published by KIT Scientific Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-09 with Technology (General) categories.

To create photonic multi-chip modules, integrated photonic chips need to be connected internally and to external glass fibers. A novel approach to address this task is the concept of photonic wire bonding, where free-standing polymer waveguides are printed in-situ by two-photon polymerization. This book contains a detailed description of the methodology of photonic wire bonding together with a number of key experiments.
