Essential in your toolset... After devouring this book in one sitting, I feel annoyed to have to distill my feelings about it into words, because I can't sketch my review here visually! I have the paperback and conclude it is a SUPERB posession. Why the long thought? Because when you get this book in the box and see how sweetly concise it is, you might at first understand why other readers wonder if it was worth supporting the author with $30 compared to magnum opuses that are stuffed with material. It is, because you can't compare them apples to apples. A lot of how to books are almost like information overload of which you'll only use or remember 10% of. This book should be compared to the thousands charged in design thinking training courses, and, Jose is getting that from companies yet giving you the core of it all in here. If you think different, if you're an innovator, a doer more than a dreamer, you'll understand the indirect value in Sketch Thinking. It's fresh content, delivered in a fresh approach to printed content that walks its own talk of simplicity RULES and so 2016... a fast chunk of golden bite sized learning geared for our ADHD generation. Just like a good design or creative ideation Tool should, it gets your Tuition out of the way quickly so your Intuition can kick in. It leaves you inspired to jump instantly into rapid prototyping and testing the manner it gives you for interacting with others. So... I got a whole lot more retention through practice prompted by a few very key words and drawings. Because it's concise but graphical, I remembered all its basics when I was on the spot today in a meeting with a CEO convincing them about a strategic concept... and using its hero --Starman-- and granma (I LOVE granma!!.. can't get her face out of my head!!) all wowed like I was a visual facilitation guru (I'm not!), which is what made me sit down and write this elaborate glowing review. It's easy to jump back to later. It's a marvelous gift onwards. Also because it's so short yet gripping, if you leave it on your desk like a coffee table book everybody picks it up and steals it, and finishes it, then it starts amazing conversations with them and generates a culture of sketch thinking with your collaborators, which is priceless. That's quite a return on an investment I throw easily over lunch. So for me, and busy people like me, this book is a solid 5/5.

Get ready for the ultimate crash course in communicating and solving problems through simple pictures. Thirty-two thousand years ago, your many-times-great-grandparents Oog and Aag drew pictures on the wall of a cave. They had an innate need to communicate, but no written language. So they found an easy and natural way to share their thoughts and stories. Today, after so many years when speaking and writing dominated, we're back in another highly visual age. About 90 percent of everything shared online is now visual—selfies, GIFs, smartphone videos, and more. This explosion of communication through pictures isn't a millenial-driven fad; it's as natural as those lines first drawn by Oog and Aag. Just turbo-charged by the latest technology. And yet over the past twenty years, as I've taught people from Fortune 500 CE0s to White House staffers how to harness the power of imagery, the biggest objection I've always heard is, "But I can't draw!" Trust me, you can. You don't need to be da Vinci to be an outstanding visual thinker and communicator. The most effective drawings are the simplest, and you can get good at those in three minutes. In this little book, I'll teach you how to use seven basic shapes to explain just about anything to just about anyone. If you've read my previous books, you'll see one or two familiar tools here, along with a bunch of new tools you can start using right away. If you're new to my approach—welcome! Get ready to work smarter, communicate more clearly, and get better at whatever you do, just by picking up a pen. Get ready to draw to win.

Joanna Kadi's clear prose strikes out powerfully against the dominance of the upper class in all spheres of life. She offers a personal and analytical look at how oppression by class intersects with oppression by race, gender, and sexuality. Examining the elite's supposed hegemony over intellectual work, Thinking Class rejects the idea that the working class is the non-thinking class, and affirms the culture that springs up, beautiful and honest, from this society's true base.In language both lyrical and sardonic, this working-class scholar examines subjects ranging from country music to cultural appropriation, from working-class ideals to Disney icons, in a forthright and poetic rendering that is sure to appeal to all those interested in American culture, feminism, and ethnic studies.
