In 1983, Robert Hiltzik's Sleepaway Camp was quickly disregarded by film reviewers. Variety called it a "tired version of teen oriented horror film formulas, " The Philadelphia Enquirer "had more thrills untangling paper clips, " and The Cincinnati Post branded it "more horrible than horrifying." But fans saw something different. Very different. 40 years since its release, the film's unique blend of horror, tongue-in-cheek comedy, sexuality, and gender roles--along with an ending to end all endings, was seemingly ahead of its time. Sleepaway Camp is now discussed and debated more than when it was initially released. Longtime official Sleepaway Camp webmaster, writer, and filmmaker Jeff Hayes goes behind the scenes like never before, revealing the development and making of the film, its immediate aftermath, and the more than four decades of fandom since its release. This definitive Sleepaway Camp compendium includes interviews with much of the cast and crew (with many new exclusives), more than 75 production and memorabilia images (including previously unreleased on-set stills), and takes you backstage to the reunions, retro screenings, and convention events that have united fans and reignited interest in this beloved horror tale. Two sequels later, plus Hiltzik's retcon film Return to Sleepaway Camp, Sleepaway Camp continues to resonate in a big way with '80s film buffs, global horror fans, and the LGBT community, all of whom enjoy their horror films...with a twist. Welcome to Sleepaway Camp. Meet you at the waterfront, after the social.

This is a very nostalgic and humerous autobiographical memoir about the twenty five summers I spent growing up at a sleepaway camp owned by my father. It follow the evolution of a rather primitive boy's camp into one of the most successful and popular co-ed sports camps in the country. The adventures and or misadventures are described as seen through my eyes and include my first fomantic interest, color wars, snipe hunt, pranks and many other camp activities. This memoir also includes over 100 photos taken during some of those glorious summers. I founded and ran a successful group medical practice for the past forty years and have only recently been semi-retired. I have maintained a strong interest in photography and have had two successful photographic exhibits at one of New Yorks most prestigious galleries, The National Art Club, at Gramery Park. This is my second book following the successful publication,m through AuthorHouse, OVER THERE, describing the six years I spent in Switzerland attending medical school in a foreign language, which I initially could not understand.

For most girls, sleepaway camp is great fun. But for Amy Becker, it’s a nightmare. Amy, whose home life is in turmoil, is sent to Camp Takawanda for Girls for the first time as a teenager. Although Amy despises spending summers at home with her German-immigrant mother, who is unduly harsh with Amy’s autistic younger brother, Amy is less than thrilled about going away to camp. And her reluctance about camp is only the beginning. At Takawanda Amy finds herself subjected to a humiliating “initiation” and also to relentless bullying by Rory, the ringleader of the senior campers. As Amy struggles to stop the mean girls from tormenting her, she becomes more confident. But then her cousin reveals dark secrets about Amy’s mother’s past, setting in motion a tragic event that changes Amy and her family forever. Winner of the Forward National Literature Award and a book-of-the-month pick by the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (NY), Camp is an acutely sensitive and compelling novel that will resonate with a wide readership. Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
