Hij schreef diverse publicaties op het gebied van politieke en culturele geschiedenis waaronder een proefschrift over Het geheim van de ministeriële verantwoordelijkheid (Bert Bakker 2011) en een biografie over Willem Treub, Enfant terrible (Prometheus 2016). Henk te Velde (1959) is hoogleraar Nederlandse geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Leiden. Hij publiceerde een reeks boeken en studies over Nederlandse politiek en politici in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. Ook schreef hij vergelijkende studies. Momenteel werkt hij aan een boek over de geschiedenis van politieke welsprekendheid in Nederland.
