Smart Green Resilient (SGR) is a new planning approach developed by Arup and is based on over a decade of observations and multi-faceted participation in East Asia's urban growth. The three-in-one thinking provides an overarching conceptual framework to enhance the urban planning process and concurrently respond to today's environmental, economic and social challenges. More importantly it provides a cognitive prism to reveal how the myriad tangible and intangible elements that drive the growth of urban settlements, can be negotiated to generate holistic outcomes. The book details how the SGR concept has evolved against the background of growing environmental awareness and the different ways cities and planners have responded to these escalating challenges over the recent years. Through a number of high profile projects across Asia, from the Ninh Thuan Integrated Planning Strategy in Vietnam to planning studies for Hong Kong's Lok Ma Chau Loop and Taiwan's Taoyuan Aerotropolis, the book outlines some of the main elements that characterise the SGR approach, implementation in projects and sources of inspiration from global geographies. The approach has been adopted by the Hong Kong government's Planning Department as the city's 'new planning vision'.

This book aims to integrate climate mitigation and adaptation tools into conventional urban planning. It emphasizes the value and importance of ICT as connected technology. The author believes that ICT and IOT can facilitate controlling climate change attributes when deployed with appropriate ingredients and composition in cities in an integrated comprehensive manner. It was written with the author's firm belief that cities play an important role in mitigating climate change by reducing energy consumption, promoting the use of renewable energy sources, or by trading emission permits and selling Certified Emission Rights (CERs). This book looks at green growth based on the circular economy using green smart technology as a sustainable tool for green economic development. Also for climate change adaptation, cities have to take actions to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change on people, property and ecosystems in the urban planning process. It has been written with the author's works for Urban Environment Accords (UEA) and International Urban Training Center (IUTC) in collaboration with UNEP, World Bank, UNFCCC and UN-HABITAT. It can be used as a training source book for city climate planners and urban practitioners of local governments. It will be utilized as a more practical guidebook for climate change policy makers as well as a futuristic research agenda for next generations.

This book is devoted to strengthening the theoretical and methodological basis, systematization of international experience, and scientific elaboration of prospects for developing a climate-smart economy and business as a vector of the sustainable development of Industry 4.0 in the Decade of Action. The first part of the book focuses on climate-responsible entrepreneurship in support of the sustainable development of Industry 4.0. The part systematizes best practices for climate-smart green innovations across sectors of the digital economy. The third part reveals the experience of climate risk management based on smart green innovations in regions and countries. Particular attention is paid to the best practices of the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The book ends with part four, which explores ESG climate risk management and green finance in support of combating climate change. The book’s novelty is that it rethinks the environmental footprints of Industry 4.0 from the perspective of climate risks and their management. The theoretical significance of the book lies in the formation of an innovative concept of climate change risk management, in which the economy, society, nature, and technology are presented and interact effectively. The book is intended for scientists. In this book, they will find an innovative and systemic vision of smart green innovations in Industry 4.0 for climate change risk management.

This book highlights the use of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructures in order to develop smart cities and produce smart economies in Africa. It discusses a robust set of concepts, including smart planning, smart infrastructure development, smart economic development, smart environmental sustainability, smart social development, resilience, and smart peace and security in several African cities. By drawing on the accumulated knowledge on various conditions that make cities smart, green, livable and healthy, it helps in the planning, design and management of African urbanization. In turn, it fosters the development of e-commerce, e-education, e-governance, etc. The rapid development of ICT infrastructures facilitates the creation of smart economies in digitally served cities and towns through smart urban planning, smart infrastructures, smart land tenure and smart urban policies. In the long term, this can reduce emissions of CO2, promote the creation of low carbon cities, reduce land degradation and promote biodiversity.

Smart Green Cities: is a comprehensive overview of what global cities are doing to become sustainable. Woodrow W. Clark II and Grant Cooke have produced a book that is both practical and visionary. They have examined the infrastructure needs - sustainable development, communications, energy, water, waste, and transportation to develop guidelines, processes and best practices. City leaders are key to mitigating climate change who must plan, design and implement solutions. Smart Green Cities (SGC) offers a global perspective that includes implementing the Green Industrial Revolution the title of their last book. SGC discusses innovative emerging technologies, and the new economics paradigm that move beyond the out-dated neo-classical economics. The authors present examples from around the world including Europe, the U.S, China and the Middle East, which discuss the best green technologies from renewable energy power generation to smart on-site grid development. The extraordinary shift from a rural to an urban world is described; national plans are analyzed; so that future cities will be designed, built and implemented now - not 50 years from now. The struggle for the planet’s survival is being waged by the world’s cities. Clark and Cooke argue that cities are the key to mitigating climate change and reducing toxic greenhouse gas emissions. SGC introduces sustainable technologies; discusses the economics for implementing the solutions; and offers numerous examples to serve as pathways for cities to become smart, green, and thus carbon neutral.

Cities around the world are becoming increasingly popular as economic powerhouses and magnets for migrants from rural and suburban areas. All big cities in First and Third World countries as well as emerging markets such as New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Dehli, Jakarta etc. have to cope with high population density and serious challenges such as air pollution or traffic congestion. How do we pack more people into big cities and yet continue to realise a high quality of life? How do we plan, create and manage 'good cities' which are safe, spacious, green, connected, fair and resilient? How can cities create economic wealth while still fulfilling the vision of sustaining our "Green Planet"? What are best practice designs and innovative technical smart city solutions which could be leveraged to tackle these challenges and how can they be successfully commercialised? These are some of the questions the reader addresses from a multi-disciplinary perspective with special reference to Singapore whose development from regional entrepôt to First World Metropolis continues to impress business and societal leaders around the world. The book's contents are broadly structured according to the following aspects: (i) definition and taxonomy of innovative & sustainable cities, including its core characteristics and how they create value in terms of innovativeness and sustainability; (ii) governance, planning and selected design principles of innovative & sustainable cities and how they pan out with regard to livability and sustainability; and (iii) in-depth study of selected smart city dimensions such as governance, clustering, connectivity, mobility, ageing, water, sports, and safety.
