The Impact Of Climate Change On European Lakes written by Glen George and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-27 with Science categories.
In this book, scientists from eleven countries summarize the results of an EU project (CLIME) that explored the effects of observed and projected changes in the climate on the dynamics of lakes in Northern, Western and Central Europe. Historical measurements from eighteen sites were used to compare the seasonal dynamics of the lakes and to assess their sensitivity to local, regional and global-scale changes in the weather. Simulations using a common set of water quality models, perturbed by six climate-change scenarios, were then used to assess the uncertainties associated with the projected changes in the climate. The book includes chapters on the phenology and modelling of lake ice, the supply and recycling of nitrogen and phosphorus, the flux of dissolved organic carbon and the growth and the seasonal succession of phytoplankton. There are also chapters on the coherent responses of lakes to changes in the circulation of the atmosphere, the development of a web-based Decision Support System and the implications of climate change for the Water Framework Directive.

Long Term Climate Monitoring By The Global Climate Observing System written by Thomas R. Karl and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
Is the climate warming? Is the hydrological cycle intensifying? Is the climate becoming more variable or extreme? Is the chemical composition of the atmosphere changing? Is the solar irradiance constant? Answers to these questions are fundamental to understanding, predicting, and assessing climate on time scales ranging from weeks to a century. Atmospheric, oceanic, and environmental scientists have primarily relied on an ad-hoc collection of disparate environmental observational and data management systems to address these problems. But these systems were not designed to measure climate variations and, as a result, changes and variations of the earth system during the instrumental climate record is far from unequivocal. This book develops a framework from which a Global Climate Observing System, currently being discussed in international forums, can be implemented to monitor changes and variations of climate. Audience: Administrators, policy makers, professionals, graduate students, and others interested in learning how we can ensure a long-term climate record for application to national economic development and understanding ecosystem dynamics.
Remote Sensing In Hydrology And Water Management

Remote Sensing In Hydrology And Water Management written by Gert A. Schultz and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
The authors of this book have been approached by consulting engineers: "You know about remote sensing and thus you can obtain hydrological information where no data exist, even without ground measurements, so that I can design the required capacity of a drinking water supply reservoir in a developing country. " On the other hand, the authors have been told: "Remote sensing is not of much use since it is still impossible to estimate ground water resources or surface water flows from remote sensing data. " The major aim of this book is to correct such unjustified illusions as well as exaggerated criticism by providing the reader with sound information on the potential - and the limitations - of remote sensing in the field of hydrology and water management. The book is meant to be a reference and text; it is not a collection of papers from some meeting. The book is intended to provide methods to help the readers solve their own problems in hydrology and water management. Therefore, scientific issues are presented only as far as they are necessary for the application of remote sensing. The reader will see that in some fields, (e. g. evapotranspiration, soil moisture, hydrological modeling) the scientific development is still on the way, while in others operational techniques are already available (e. g. snow melt run off-model, land use classification and detection of land use changes, flood fore casting and control).
