This book explores creative uses of social media for informal language learning. It focuses on the underexplored area of how informal language learning adapts to technological innovations in two multimodal media-sharing platforms: TikTok and Instagram. Drawing on ecological perspectives of language learning and spatial understandings of digital technology and learning, the research reported in this book unpacks how social media technologies are used for language learning. It presents insights from a dual-level qualitative methodological design: a comparative study of public online data of social media posts collected from TikTok and Instagram, and a multiple case study based on ethnographic narrative data gathered from participants’ journal entries, stimulated recall interviews, and social media posts. This book reveals the dynamic landscape of digital language learning that is being integrated into learners’ everyday lives through multimodal content creation and networking. This book enriches readers’ understanding of social media’s role in language learning, and offers pedagogical strategies for teachers to integrate newer technologies and multimodal materials into language classrooms to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Advances In Social Networking Based Learning written by Christos Troussas and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-20 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book discusses three important, hot research issues: social networking-based learning, machine learning-based user modeling and sentiment analysis. Although these three technologies have been widely used by researchers around the globe by academic disciplines and by R&D departments in the IT industry, they have not yet been used extensively for the purposes of education. The authors present a novel approach that uses adaptive hypermedia in e-learning models to personalize educational content and learning resources based on the needs and preferences of individual learners. According to reports, in 2018 the vast majority of internet users worldwide are active on social networks, and the global average social network penetration rate as of 2018 is close to half the population. Employing social networking technologies in the field of education allows the latest technological advances to be used to create interactive educational environments where students can learn, collaborate with peers and communicate with tutors while benefiting from a social and pedagogical structure similar to a real class. The book first discusses in detail the current trend of social networking-based learning. It then provides a novel framework that moves further away from digital learning technologies while incorporating a wide range of recent advances to provide solutions to future challenges. This approach incorporates machine learning to the student-modeling component, which also uses conceptual frameworks and pedagogical theories in order to further promote individualization and adaptivity in e-learning environments. Moreover, it examines error diagnosis, misconceptions, tailored testing and collaboration between students are examined and proposes new approaches for these modules. Sentiment analysis is also incorporated into the general framework, supporting personalized learning by considering the user’s emotional state, and creating a user-friendly learning environment tailored to students’ needs. Support for students, in the form of motivation, completes the framework. This book helps researchers in the field of knowledge-based software engineering to build more sophisticated personalized educational software, while retaining a high level of adaptivity and user-friendliness within human–computer interactions. Furthermore, it is a valuable resource for educators and software developers designing and implementing intelligent tutoring systems and adaptive educational hypermedia systems.

technologies, in education. A large body of research has attempted to measure the extent to which social media change human communication. In education, researchers and educators have employed social media to increase students’ engagement inside and outside the classroom. They have been exploring the effects of the use of social media on the learning outcome, and learners’ beliefs and experiences. However, some of their endeavors are inconclusive. As the effects of social media in education are context-sensitive, research results reflecting different contexts around the world will contribute to the literature on social media and education. Student engagement in learning, a growing interest in educational research, is widely believed to contribute to the success of learning. The contemporary literature shows that students can engage in learning affectively, behaviorally, and cognitively. Recent studies are also interested in using technology to mediate students’ social and metacognitive engagement in learning. As student engagement is a multidimensional area, interdisciplinary studies have recently expanded their literature. The use of social media to increase student engagement in learning remains underexplored.

Standing at the intersection of fan culture, digital technology, and language learning, this book advocates for a transformative shift in language education in the AI age. Introducing the concept of fandom language learning, it illustrates how enthusiasm for specific interests motivates fans to learn languages, resulting in immersive and personalised learning experiences. Tracing the evolution of digital platforms shows how this has become possible thanks to their pivotal role in transforming language learning from a solitary, traditional endeavour into a vibrant, community-driven practice. The authors examine the psychological underpinnings of fandom language learning and how emotional engagement and cultural immersion can help to foster motivation. They also weigh the impact of social media and AI on language learning, emphasising the potential for these technologies to smooth the way for more interactive, engaging, and effective language education. Through a translanguaging approach, they also give new perspectives on the ways in which digital platforms enable learners to transcend linguistic boundaries and how fandom learners can harness creative expression and multilingual engagement. Building on these ideas, Fandom Language Learning also sets out practical guidance for educators on how to use fandom culture to motivate foreign language learning and increase students' Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE), envisioning a future where language education is not only more aligned with learners' passions but also more responsive to the demands of a digital, multilingual world.
