Cartea lui Dan Dungaciu se individualizeaza prin originalitatea metodei sale: logistica. Sociologia este, prin excelenta, o "stiinta de spate", cum ar spune logisticienii, adica o stiinta care serveste marilor incordari colective (ofensive sau defensive) pe o durata anumita. Dan Dungaciu propune, in acest sens, cel putin trei procedee de cercetare a sociologiei la scara unei epoci si a unei arii de civilizatie, cea europeana in acest caz: a) "centrele logistice ale gandirii sociale" (care sustin retelele sociologiei); b). "Harta logistica a sociologiei" (romanesti in acest caz); c). Seria teoriilor reprezentative pentru cateva dintre temele dominante ale sociologiei interbelice. Modelul lecturii dezvaluie o fata surprinzatoare a uneia dintre cele mai spectaculoase manifestari ale sociologiei in secolul XX: sociologia romaneasca interbelica. Istoria logistica a sociologiei romanesti reconstituie astfel una dintre secventele de mare tensiune creatoare ale dramei neamului romanesc in secolul al XX-lea, ceea ce face din cartea lui Dan Dungaciu una de exceptie.

Argues that the xenophobia and antisemitism which accompanied the birth of the Romanian nation state, in the mid-19th century, was part of the nationalist ideology and not an expression of racism. The Romanian self-image was constructed in relation to the stranger, especially in a time of crisis. As liberal values gained support among the elite between 1831-66, suspicion of strangers also increased. In the 1830s-40s xenophobia focused on internal enemies, and later on external ones. Although antisemitism was not part of the Romanian intellectuals' program, they embraced it in order to identify with national goals. National interests were thought to be incompatible with the acceptance of strangers, especially Jews, who were considered different in nature from the peasant-like Romanians. However, legislation between 1831-66 shows that real efforts were made to improve the Jews' status and to work toward their integration. These efforts increased after the establishment of the nation state in 1859. Concludes that although the main causes of antisemitism were anti-Jewish fantasies, they had some basis in reality. The great number of Jews, especially in Moldavia, their role in the economy and as mediators between classes, and their cultural and confessional oddness, created gaps between them and the non-Jews, which aroused mutual suspicions.
