"Looking back, it was a time of madness: an era when billions of dollars - and even more faith - was placed in dotcom startups with inexperienced management and "Swiss cheese" business plans. Robert Glass's ComputingFailure.com is a powerful chronicle of those years, and something more: a cautionary "worst practices" guide for every entrepreneur and e-Business professional." "Glass carefully chooses his case studies for the insights they impart. The executives quoted and profiled in this book have learned hard, expensive lessons - about building compelling business models, about building compelling business models, about managing growth, and about when to ignore the venture capitalists. They've learned surprising lessons about integrating with bricks-and-mortar parent companies and about what it takes to get marketing, tech, and everyone else on the same page."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Perspectives on Data Science for Software Engineering presents the best practices of seasoned data miners in software engineering. The idea for this book was created during the 2014 conference at Dagstuhl, an invitation-only gathering of leading computer scientists who meet to identify and discuss cutting-edge informatics topics. At the 2014 conference, the concept of how to transfer the knowledge of experts from seasoned software engineers and data scientists to newcomers in the field highlighted many discussions. While there are many books covering data mining and software engineering basics, they present only the fundamentals and lack the perspective that comes from real-world experience. This book offers unique insights into the wisdom of the community’s leaders gathered to share hard-won lessons from the trenches. Ideas are presented in digestible chapters designed to be applicable across many domains. Topics included cover data collection, data sharing, data mining, and how to utilize these techniques in successful software projects. Newcomers to software engineering data science will learn the tips and tricks of the trade, while more experienced data scientists will benefit from war stories that show what traps to avoid. Presents the wisdom of community experts, derived from a summit on software analytics Provides contributed chapters that share discrete ideas and technique from the trenches Covers top areas of concern, including mining security and social data, data visualization, and cloud-based data Presented in clear chapters designed to be applicable across many domains

With the same insight and authority that made their book The Unix Programming Environment a classic, Brian Kernighan and Rob Pike have written The Practice of Programming to help make individual programmers more effective and productive. The practice of programming is more than just writing code. Programmers must also assess tradeoffs, choose among design alternatives, debug and test, improve performance, and maintain software written by themselves and others. At the same time, they must be concerned with issues like compatibility, robustness, and reliability, while meeting specifications. The Practice of Programming covers all these topics, and more. This book is full of practical advice and real-world examples in C, C++, Java, and a variety of special-purpose languages. It includes chapters on: debugging: finding bugs quickly and methodically testing: guaranteeing that software works correctly and reliably performance: making programs faster and more compact portability: ensuring that programs run everywhere without change design: balancing goals and constraints to decide which algorithms and data structures are best interfaces: using abstraction and information hiding to control the interactions between components style: writing code that works well and is a pleasure to read notation: choosing languages and tools that let the machine do more of the work Kernighan and Pike have distilled years of experience writing programs, teaching, and working with other programmers to create this book. Anyone who writes software will profit from the principles and guidance in The Practice of Programming.

World War 3 0 written by Ken Auletta and has been published by Broadway this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Business & Economics categories.

"When the U.S. Justice Department took Microsoft to court in October 1998, the company had the highest market capitalization in the world. From day one of the trial, Ken Auletta was there, not merely covering the tense proceedings but conducting his own excavation for the truth. Drawn from his range of interviews with Bill Gates, David Boies, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, Steve Case, and other sources, World War 3.0 unveils two stories simultaneously: the war inside the courtroom that found Microsoft guilty of monopolistic behavior and the war outside the courtroom for corporate supremacy." "Determined to create the fairest and most human portrait of Microsoft to date, Auletta shows how the company's culture seeded both its current legal misery and its business success. He paints a portrait of Bill Gates, half genius and half child, and the drama of characters and corporations whose fates are linked to Microsoft's. World War 3.0 peeks into the future of the Information Age and takes readers on an entertaining ride that offers astonishing views of hubris, vanity, and greed - and of gifted and flawed giants."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. This is the digital version of the printed book (Copyright © 2004). Who Says Large Teams Can’t Handle Agile Software Development? Agile or "lightweight" processes have revolutionized the software development industry. They're faster and more efficient than traditional software development processes. They enable developers to embrace requirement changes during the project deliver working software in frequent iterations focus on the human factor in software development Unfortunately, most agile processes are designed for small or mid-sized software development projects—bad news for large teams that have to deal with rapid changes to requirements. That means all large teams! With Agile Software Development in the Large, Jutta Eckstein—a leading speaker and consultant in the agile community—shows how to scale agile processes to teams of up to 200. The same techniques are also relevant to teams of as few as 10 developers, especially within large organizations. Topics include the agile value system as used in large teams the impact of a switch to agile processes the agile coordination of several sub-teams the way project size and team size influence the underlying architecture Stop getting frustrated with inflexible processes that cripple your large projects! Use this book to harness the efficiency and adaptability of agile software development. Stop getting frustrated with inflexible processes that cripple your large projects! Improving Software Testing written by Tim A. Majchrzak and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-03 with Business & Economics categories.

Software is continuously increasing in complexity. Paradigmatic shifts and new development frameworks make it easier to implement software – but not to test it. Software testing remains to be a topic with many open questions with regard to both technical low-level aspects and to the organizational embedding of testing. However, a desired level of software quality cannot be achieved by either choosing a technical procedure or by optimizing testing processes. In fact, it requires a holistic approach. This Brief summarizes the current knowledge of software testing and introduces three current research approaches. The base of knowledge is presented comprehensively in scope but concise in length; thereby the volume can be used as a reference. Research is highlighted from different points of view. Firstly, progress on developing a tool for automated test case generation (TCG) based on a program’s structure is introduced. Secondly, results from a project with industry partners on testing best practices are highlighted. Thirdly, embedding testing into e-assessment of programming exercises is described.
