An Introduction To Soil Mechanics written by Arnold Verruijt and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This textbook offers a superb introduction to theoretical and practical soil mechanics. Special attention is given to the risks of failure in civil engineering, and themes covered include stresses in soils, groundwater flow, consolidation, testing of soils, and stability of slopes. Readers will learn the major principles and methods of soil mechanics, and the most important methods of determining soil parameters both in the laboratory and in situ. The basic principles of applied mechanics, that are frequently used, are offered in the appendices. The author’s considerable experience of teaching soil mechanics is evident in the many features of the book: it is packed with supportive color illustrations, helpful examples and references. Exercises with answers enable students to self-test their understanding and encourage them to explore further through additional online material. Numerous simple computer programs are provided online as Electronic Supplementary Material. As a soil mechanics textbook, this volume is ideally suited to supporting undergraduate civil engineering students. “I am really delighted that your book is now published. When I “discovered” your course a few years ago, I was elated to have finally found a book that immediately resonated with me. Your approach to teaching soil mechanics is precise, rigorous, clear, concise, or in other words “crisp." My colleagues who share the teaching of Soil Mechanics 1 and 2 (each course is taught every semester) at the UMN have also adopted your book.” Emmanuel Detournay Professor at Dept. of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering, University of Minnesota, USA

Modelling And Applications Of Transport Phenomena In Porous Media written by Jacob Bear and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-11-30 with Science categories.
Transport phenomenain porous media are encounteredin various disciplines, e. g. , civil engineering, chemical engineering, reservoir engineering, agricul tural engineering and soil science. In these disciplines, problems are en countered in which various extensive quantities, e. g. , mass and heat, are transported through a porous material domain. Often, the void space of the porous material contains two or three fluid phases, and the various ex tensive quantities are transported simultaneously through the multiphase system. In all these disciplines, decisions related to a system's development and its operation have to be made. To do so a tool is needed that will pro vide a forecast of the system's response to the implementation of proposed decisions. This response is expressed in the form of spatial and temporal distributions of the state variables that describe the system's behavior. Ex amples of such state variables are pressure, stress, strain, density, velocity, solute concentration, temperature, etc. , for each phase in the system, The tool that enables the required predictions is the model. A model may be defined as a simplified version of the real porous medium system and the transport phenomena that occur in it. Because the model is a sim plified version of the real system, no unique model exists for a given porous medium system. Different sets of simplifying assumptions, each suitable for a particular task, will result in different models.

These proceedings are a continuation of the series of International Conferences in Germany entitled "Mechanics of Unsaturated Soils." The primary objective is to discuss and understand unsaturated soil behaviour such that engineered activities are made better with times in terms of judgment and quality. The proceedings contain recent research by leading experts in Mechanics of Unsaturated Soils.

Diffusion In Natural Porous Media written by Peter Grathwohl and has been published by Taylor & Francis US this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-02-28 with Nature categories.
Launches a series that intends to deal with topics as varied as atmospheric dynamics, coastal oceanography, subsurface flow and transport, lava flow, oil spills on the sea surface, indoor contamination and clean-room technology, risk assessment, data acquisition, and stochastic models. Introduces the general principles of diffusion in the subsurface environment and discusses the implications for the fate and transport of contaminants in the soils and groundwater. Emphasizes sorption and desorption and the dissolution kinetics of organic contaminants, both of which are limited by the slow speed of molecular diffusion. Also compiles methods for calculating the diffusion coefficients of organic compounds in aqueous solution or vapor phase through natural porous media.
