“Songs of Love” is a beautiful collection of some of Naidu's most moving poetry not to be missed by fans and collectors of her work. Contents include: “The Poet's Love-Song”, “Song Of A Dream”, “Ecstasy”, “Humayun To Zobeida”, “The Bird Of Time”, “An Indian Love Song”, “Love And Death”, “The Dance Of Love”, “A Love Son”, “A Rajput Love Song”, “A Persian Love Song”, “To Love”, etc. Sarojini Naidu (1879–1949) was an Indian political activist and poet. She was a staunch proponent of women's emancipation, civil rights, and anti-imperialistic ideas, playing an important role in India's struggle for independence from colonial rule. Her work as a poet includes both children's poems and others with more mature themes including patriotism, romance, and tragedy, earning her the sobriquet “Nightingale of India”. Her most famous work is "In the Bazaars of Hyderabad" (1912), which remains widely read to this day. Read & Co. is publishing this brand new poetry collection complete with an introduction by Edmund Gosse.

There is a place where love walks hand in hand with poetry and melodies of song. It is a sunlit stretch of golden sand where only gentle hearts in love belong ... Adonna Marie Gipe Adonna Marie Gipe is a passionate poet whose writings reflect her love of God, nature, family and friends, the creative life, and the electrifying joy of loving others. In this varied collection of love poems, Gipe employs traditional styles, such as sonnets, blank and free verse, rondeaus, villanelles, and other forms, to share poetry that marries love and heartache with nature and faith. Rich in metaphor and simile, her words beam like sunlight through the trees, the crackling fire of laughter warms a soul, a heart wounded by lifes pain overflows with loves warm touch, and a precious gift from God is wrapped up and sent from heaven.. Hopefully, this collection will inspire others to both accept and give love in a world that needs it more now than ever. *Songs Before Dawn, by Adonna Gipe, is perhaps one of the most aesthetically pleasing poetry books I have read in decades. The poetry within this book blends a unique tapestry of poems of faith, love, contemplation, natural beauty and more. The poet skillfully blends deeply meaningful and beautiful phrasing to convey her thoughts. By this I once again refer to aesthetically pleasing poetry. Importantly, her poetry allows the reader to insert him-herself into the read, thus becoming part of the poem itself. Whether its an English sonnet, quatrains, blank verse, etc., each poem within this book is stellar and leaves the reader sated, yet yearning for more of her verse. Without a doubt, Ms. Gipes ability to create word art in the form of poetry is second to none. Ray Griffin, teacher, poet, writer. Reflecting the heart of a true poet, Adonna Gipe has a masterful ability to weave words and phrases into beautiful, emotionally connected fabrics Garrett Cooper, former CEO of Ambassador Enterprises and Taylor University faculty member

The authors of oral literature in the Pashtun language create their work at a far remove from any books. Generally deprived of the support of schools and universities, their compositions are inseparable from song. Their poetry is never declaimed; rather, their rhyme and rhythm have melodic value. These popular improvisations do not exalt mystic love. In them there is no aspiration whatsoever to an unfathomable and incommunicable heaven, nor devotion to the lord, nor praise for an absolute master, nor any Adonis. To the contrary, they are songs of the earth. They celebrate nature, mountains, rivers, dawn and night’s magnetic space. They are songs of war and honor, shame and love, beauty and death. The repression of Afghan women has caused untold suffering, particularly through moral subjugation. Infant daughters and their mothers are received with scorn and shame, and lead lives of subordination and humiliation. Their rebellion against these tribal codes comes only through suicide and song. Translated from the Pashtun into French by the eminent Sayd Bahodine Majrouh, the greatest Afghan poet of the twentieth century, his text has been rendered into English in the expert hands of Marjolijn de Jager of the Translation Department at NYU.
