Oedipus Trilogy is a compelling examination of fate, free will, and human suffering within the framework of Greek tragedy. Sophocles explores the inescapable nature of destiny and the tragic consequences of human actions, portraying a world where knowledge and ignorance are equally perilous. Through the stories of Oedipus, Jocasta, Antigone, and Creon, the trilogy delves into themes of prophecy, power, and moral responsibility, offering a profound reflection on the limits of human agency. Since its creation, Oedipus Trilogy has been regarded as one of the greatest achievements of classical drama. Its exploration of universal themes such as justice, guilt, and the search for truth has ensured its lasting significance in literary and philosophical discourse. The deeply tragic yet thought-provoking narrative continues to captivate audiences, shedding light on the complexities of human nature and the consequences of defying or accepting fate. The trilogy's enduring relevance lies in its ability to provoke reflection on the nature of destiny and the ethical dilemmas that arise from power and knowledge. By examining the fragile balance between personal choice and divine will, Oedipus Trilogy invites readers and viewers to confront fundamental questions about identity, responsibility, and the forces that shape human existence.

Contains the plays: Ajax, Antigone, Electra, Oedipus at Colonus, Oedipus the King, Philoctetes, and The Trachiniae.Sophocles (/ˈsɒfəkliːz/; Greek: Σοφοκλῆς, Sophoklēs, Ancient Greek: ; c. 497/6 - winter 406/5 BC) is one of three ancient Greek tragedians whose plays have survived. His first plays were written later than those of Aeschylus, and earlier than or contemporary with those of Euripides. Sophocles wrote 120 plays during the course of his life, but only seven have survived in a complete form: Ajax, Antigone, The Women of Trachis, Oedipus Rex, Electra, Philoctetes and Oedipus at Colonus. For almost 50 years, Sophocles was the most celebrated playwright in the dramatic competitions of the city-state of Athens that took place during the religious festivals of the Lenaea and the Dionysia. He competed in 30 competitions, won 18, and was never judged lower than second place. Aeschylus won 14 competitions, and was sometimes defeated by Sophocles, while Euripides won 5 competitions. The most famous tragedies of Sophocles feature Oedipus and also Antigone: they are generally known as the Theban plays, although each play was actually a part of a different tetralogy, the other members of which are now lost. Sophocles influenced the development of drama, most importantly by adding a third actor, thereby reducing the importance of the chorus in the presentation of the plot. He also developed his characters to a greater extent than earlier playwrights such as Aeschylus.
