Philosophie Der Lebenskunst written by Wilhelm Schmid and has been published by Suhrkamp Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Philosophy categories.

When the original Dutch version of this book was presented in 1971 to the University of Leiden as a thesis for the Doctorate in philosophy, I was prevented by the academic mores of that university from expressing my sincere thanks to three members of the Philosophical Faculty for their support of and interest in my pursuits. I take the liberty of doing so now, two and a half years later. First and foremost I want to thank Professor G. Nuchelmans warmly for his expert guidance of my research. A number of my most im portant sources were brought to my attention by him. During the whole process of composing this book his criticism and encouragement were carried out in a truly academic spirit. He thereby provided working conditions that are a sine qua non for every author who is attempting to approach controversial matters in a scientific manner, conditions which, however, were not easily available at that time. In a later phase I also came into contact with Professors L. M. de Rijk and J. B. Ubbink, with both of whom I had highly stimulating discussions and exchanges of ideas. The present edition contains some entirely new sections, viz. 1-9, IV-29, V-9, V-20, VII-14 (iii), (iv), VII-17 (i), VIII-22, IX-17, IX-19, X-9 and XI-8. Section X-9 was inspired by a remark made by Professor A.

Herzl written by Steven Beller and has been published by Halban Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Zionists categories.

Examines the role of antisemitism in the formation of Herzl's views. Debunking the myth that Herzl turned to Zionism because of the Dreyfus trial, shows that the Austrian rather than the French reality made him seek a solution for the "Jewish problem." Being elitist and, to some extent, antisemitic in his heart, Herzl distinguished between "acculturated, " "noble" Jews and "non-acculturated" or "money" Jews and believed that Jews themselves were partially to blame for antisemitism. Thus he thought that before the Jews can be a nation, they must be reeducated and socially "improved."

Are We All Nazis written by Hans Askenasy and has been published by Secaucus, N.J. : L. Stuart this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1978 with History categories.

This book is based on the famous experiments conducted by Yale psychologist Stanley Milgram, which concluded that given an adjusted, controlled environment, most of us will act in a manner at total odds with our normal behavior patterns. Dr. Hans Askenasy agrees with these findings, and presents, with compelling logic and scholarship, a most disquieting view: that the Nazis who carried out the murder of six million Jews were neither sadists, madmen or monsters. Most of us would like to think they were, for then the responsibility for the atrocities they committed could be placed upon a special class of criminals or lunatics essentially different from the rest of us. Auschwitz could not, we like to believe, have happened here--yet it is psychologically easy to ignore responsibility when one is only an intermediate link in a chain of evil. The author concludes that the main cause of large-scale destructiveness is not individual criminality, but social abnormality--a collective madness which we do not fully understand and with which we have not yet come to terms.--From publisher description.

Tradition is a central concept in the social sciences, but it is commonly treated as unproblematic. Dr. Boyer insists that social anthropology requires a theory of tradition, its constitution and transmission. He treats tradition "as a type of interaction which results in the repetition of certain communicative events," and therefore as a form of social action. Tradition as Truth and Communication deals particularly with oral communication and focuses on the privileged role of licensed speakers and the ritual contexts in which certain aspects of tradition are characteristically transmitted. Drawing on cognitive psychology, Dr. Boyer proposes a set of general hypotheses to be tested by ethnographic field research. He has opened up an important new field for investigation within social anthropology.
