If you're afraid then you are fucked. The hunter can always smell his prey. There will be no one to protect you tonight. The river flows slowly and echoes through the steps that hide beyond the cone of light from the street lamp. Eight stories of violence, passion, fear and a fascination with evil tell about the most intriguing, bloody and controversial metropolis in the world. New York is not just that, of course. A deep beauty is stuck deep into the soul of this city. But tonight the pencils and the words of young crime story authors will take you beyond the lights of the skyscrapers, beyond the smoky bars. Tonight you will navigate by sight across the East River which will take you far away, among secrets and fears. There is a strange moon that eases the navigation, that sharpens the smell, and the pleasure of the journey. It is time to move, the night will not wait. The hunt has begun. Limited edition, in english, with the contribution of Stan Lee and Matthew Modine!

From a New York Times–bestselling author: An account of the murder case and coerced confession that led to the birth of Miranda rights—“Unfailingly riveting” (Vincent Bugliosi). It was a muggy summer day in 1963 when Janice Wylie and Emily Hoffert were murdered in their apartment on New York City’s Upper East Side. Months passed before police arrested George Whitmore Jr., and he confessed to the crime. But his incarceration would entail a host of shocking law enforcement missteps and cover-ups. In this insider account, attorney and New York Times–bestselling author Robert K. Tanenbaum delivers a page-turning, real-life thriller about this historic case—from the brutal crime to the wrenching conviction, which forever reformed the American justice system. Echoes of My Soul chronicles both the infamous “Career Girls Murders” and the aftermath that ultimately led to the Supreme Court’s Miranda decision, as well as the abolition of the death penalty in New York State. This is “the most powerful story of American justice in our time”—a true account of two brutal murders, the innocent man convicted of the crime, and the young DA who refused to give up until justice was served (Linda Fairstein). “Thrilling and insightful.” —Publishers Weekly “Many of the elements of the narrative are inherently fascinating: the circumstances of the crimes in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the police investigations, the prosecutors’ deliberations and the courtroom dramatics . . . A nonfiction murder mystery, an intriguing saga.” —Kirkus Reviews

The Souls Of White Folk written by Veronica T. Watson and has been published by Univ. Press of Mississippi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-23 with Literary Criticism categories.

The Souls of White Folk: African American Writers Theorize Whiteness is the first study to consider the substantial body of African American writing that critiques whiteness as social construction and racial identity. Arguing against the prevailing approach to these texts that says African American writers retreated from issues of “race” when they wrote about whiteness, Veronica T. Watson instead identifies this body of literature as an African American intellectual and literary tradition that she names “the literature of white estrangement.” In chapters that theorize white double consciousness (W. E. B. Du Bois and Charles Chesnutt), white womanhood and class identity (Zora Neale Hurston and Frank Yerby), and the socio-spatial subjectivity of southern whites during the civil rights era (Melba Patillo Beals), Watson explores the historically situated theories and analyses of whiteness provided by the literature of white estrangement from the late nineteenth through the mid-twentieth centuries. She argues that these texts are best understood as part of a multipronged approach by African American writers to challenge and dismantle white supremacy in the United States and demonstrates that these texts have an important place in the growing field of critical whiteness studies.

Stone Cold Souls written by Gregory K. Moffatt and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-07-30 with Law categories.

History's most notorious and brutal killers still enjoy fame as public fascination with their lives and their crimes continues to grow. Stone Cold Souls is a detailed examination of the most brutal killers in history. Moffatt does what he does best by looking at historical accounts of events, analyzing them from a psychological perspective, and presenting his assessment in captivating fashion. He examines different types of killers, offers case studies and historical context, and describes what sets these cases apart from other kinds of killings. Even in a day and age where pop culture has made serial crime a mainstay of movies and books, the depravity of the killers profiled in this work will still shock even a desensitized reader. Men, women, and children alike have committed crimes so atrocious that it is hard to imagine that these events are not works of fiction. Moffatt examines the difficult questions that inevitably arise when one reads cases of unthinkable torture and cruelty. Why? Were these people simply evil or is it possible that, given other circumstances, they could have redirected their energies into more productive outlets? The author answers these questions and others and reveals the lives and crimes of these ruthless killers. Stone Cold Souls features such well-known cases as: Andrei Chikatilo, Marc Dutroux, Herman Webster Mudgett, Charles Ng, Leonard Lake, Lawrence Bittaker, Roy Norris, Ed Gein, Edmund Kemper, Henry Lee Lucas, Gilles de Rais, Ivan the Terrible, Richard Ramirez, Holly Ann Harvey, Sandy Ketchum, Mary Bell, Jesse Pomeroy, Josef Mengele, Marshall Applewhite, Jeffrey Lundgren, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Father Oliver O'Grady, Charles Cullin, Harold Shipman, Michael Swango, Myra Hindley, Karla Homolka, Aileen Carol Lee Wuornos, Elizabeth Bathory, Charles Sobhraj, Albert Fish, Donald Harvey, and Dennis Rader.
