Heroic Habits written by Ezra Sullivan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-13 with categories.

You are made for greatness. Not mediocrity. Not mere goodness. Greatness. The structure of your life, your human nature, your unique body, your emotions--everything about you is oriented to your perfection. But how are we to reach greatness? In this thought-provoking book, Father Ezra Sullivan provides the forgotten key to discovering the soul's potential for greatness: heroic habits. A habit is what makes us into saints or sinners. Just as the body can become stronger through exercise and effort, or weaker through wounds or neglect, so the entire person can develop an almost permanent state of goodness or evil through habituation to virtue or vice. Habits both reveal and shape who you are; they speak about what you have been, and they predict what you will be. Unique for a spirituality book, Heroic Habits explores and combines three realms of thought: The psychological science of habits St. Thomas Aquinas's theory of habits Practical advice on habits Utilizing humor, everyday examples, and serious scholarship, Fr. Ezra gets to the root of one of the things most mysterious to us--ourselves. Because habits are biological, psychological, and spiritual realities, Heroic Habits provides a panoramic vision of the whole human person. Front and center are why we are the way we are, how we make habits, how habits influence our lives, and how to develop good ones and eradicate bad ones, all with the help of God, as well the saints, who lived out their good habits heroically and provide a blueprint for you to do the same. Heroic Habits will help you achieve long-lasting insight about yourself, to open yourself to the transforming grace of Christ, and to develop the good habits you have always desired.

The Ontology Psychology And Axiology Of Habits Habitus In Medieval Philosophy written by Nicolas Faucher and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-12 with Philosophy categories.

This book features 20 essays that explore how Latin medieval philosophers and theologians from Anselm to Buridan conceived of habitus, as well as detailed studies of the use of the concept by Augustine and of the reception of the medieval doctrines of habitus in Suàrez and Descartes. Habitus are defined as stable dispositions to act or think in a certain way. This definition was passed down to the medieval thinkers from Aristotle and, to a lesser extent, Augustine, and played a key role in many of the philosophical and theological developments of the time. Written by leading experts in medieval and modern philosophy, the book offers a historical overview that examines the topic in light of recent advances in medieval cognitive psychology and medieval moral theory. Coverage includes such topics as the metaphysics of the soul, the definition of virtue and vice, and the epistemology of self-knowledge. The book also contains an introduction that is the first attempt at a comprehensive survey of the nature and function of habitus in medieval thought. The material will appeal to a wide audience of historians of philosophy and contemporary philosophers. It is relevant as much to the historian of ancient philosophy who wants to track the historical reception of Aristotelian ideas as it is to historians of modern philosophy who would like to study the progressive disappearance of the term “habitus” in the early modern period and the concepts that were substituted for it. In addition, the volume will also be of interest to contemporary philosophers open to historical perspectives in order to renew current trends in cognitive psychology, virtue epistemology, and virtue ethics.

Do you sometimes feel that no matter how much wealth you accumulate, toys you own, friendships you make or physical and mental mountains you conquer, you're still at the end of the day unfulfilled - with a gnawing deep down inside that something is "still missing" or that you're meant for something greater than what you're doing right now? You're not alone. That loss of direction, purpose and deep, fulfilling meaning is absent in the lives of some of the most successful or fit people you'll ever meet.Over the past several years, as Ben has repeatedly witnessed in both himself and others the ultimate unfulfillment of a sole focus upon carnal, fleshly pursuits, and as he's observed great thinkers and philosophers while continually seeking wisdom, he's become increasingly convinced that caring for one's spirit is as important-no, actually far more important-than caring for one's body and brain. But after your muscles have atrophied, your skin has sagged, your brain has degraded and accumulated with plaque, your blood vessels have become clogged, and your nerves have become weakened-long after your relentless pursuit of fitness or health or longevity has become a vain effort-your spirit can be just as strong and as bright as ever. How about you? Have you gained the world yet left your soul behind? Do you feel like that most important part of you - your soul - is shrunken, neglected and unfit? Do you crave for more meaning, purpose and fulfillment in your life? Then this book - Fit Soul - was written exactly for you. Within the pages - written in a practical, easy-to-understand way with tips, tricks, strategies and solutions that will be simple to implement within your own life - you'll discover everything you need to know to care for your soul, attain true spiritual fitness, discover union with God and find the happiness you have always craved for and deserve.

The Soul Beneath The Skin written by David Nimmons and has been published by Macmillan + ORM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-05-28 with Social Science categories.

This surprising and thought-provoking book begins with the obvious fact that Stonewall happened 30 years ago, and the perhaps less obvious fact that in the 30 years since an enormous number of social science studies have been done on gay men. Dave Nimmons proceeds to synthesize that information to reveal a number of unseen patterns of gay male behavior, truths about our lives we feel instinctively but have not named. For instance, countless studies show that gay men have developed a culture in which public violence is almost non-existent, which is notable when you consider that violence in this society is almost entirely a male phenomenon. Even in intensely over-crowded gay bars and discos, with alcohol and testosterone saturating the atmosphere, fist fights are virtually unheard of. On in the area of volunteerism, study after study shows that gay men volunteer at a much higher level than any other segment of the population (and, very interestingly, our volunteerism is about evenly divided between gay and non-gay causes, as are our charitable contributions). Our patterns of intimacy and friendship are much more diffuse and extended than heterosexual patterns; sexual jealousy and exclusiveness are extremely different, as are our relationships with women and our pursuit of playfulness and sexual bliss. Altogether, these gay social innovations have no parallel in modern American culture; they describe a new kind of public ethics, one with deep implications for gay men and for the larger society.
