L'objectif de cette thèse est d'explorer si, compte tenu des dynamiques démographiques et des faibles capacités financières, les technologies accessibles aux villes du Sud sont aptes à infléchir significativement les trajectoires des consommations énergétiques liées aux transports urbains. Le chapitre 1 récapitule ce que nous savons des déterminants des consommations énergétiques liées aux transports urbains. Le chapitre 2 discute les solutions. Ceci nous conduit à examiner les interactions entre le système de transport et le système d'usage des sols. Le chapitre 3 analyse ce couple sur le temps long, depuis la fondation de Bogota (Colombie) jusqu'à la fin du XXème siècle. Le chapitre 4 étudie les effets d'une infrastructure de transport, le BRT TransMilenio, sur les marchés foncier et immobiliers et la matrice des déplacements. Le chapitre 5 évalue les outils de prospective capables de simuler différentes combinaisons de politiques et sélectionne un modèle intégré existant (TRANUS). Le chapitre 6 teste à l'aide de TRANUS la capacité des politiques urbaines à réduire les consommations énergétiques liées aux transports urbains sur le cas de Bangalore (Inde).

Edgeless cities are a sprawling form of development that accounts for the bulk of office space found outside of downtowns. Every major metropolitan area has them: vast swaths of isolated buildings that are neither pedestrian friendly, nor easily accessible by public transit, and do not lend themselves to mixed use. Since the 1990’s, researchers, practitioners and public administrations have given more thought to urban logistics. However, their interests and goals are not the same, and several approaches do not produce efficient logistics systems as a result. This book aims to provide both a conceptual framework for urban logistics planning and management and to create a basis for deploying solutions that aim to reduce the main nuisances related to urban goods. The proposed book is divided in two parts. The first proposes a set of methodological chapters, written by key authors, which aim to support decision makers in their current choices related to urban logistics. In addition to public authorities’ aims and goals, the book highlights the importance of private actors, and shows how supply chain management can deal with the problems of the last urban mile and its integration in global logistics chains.
