The 2019 SouthWest Writers Annual Writing ContestThe motto of SouthWest Writers is "Writers Helping Writers." We do this through classes, conferences, workshops and a membership of more than 370 people―many of whom are published, well-known authors. Twice monthly meetings offer insights and opportunities for networking. The Annual Writing Contest offers an important step in an author's development. It focuses on short pieces of poetry, non-fiction essays and genre-driven short prose - less than 3,500 words. The contest allows both budding authors and seasoned writers to sharpen their skills. Sixteen categories were offered, and awards were given for First, Second and Third place in each. Many new authors need a challenge in a supportive environment where they can feel comfortable discussing their work. A true success story begins with being courageous enough to put your skills in front of others. Our words are our children, so we need to understand that constructive criticism does not condemn, it helps us mold and grow out talents.Seasoned published writers can fall into a rut. Contests such as this one divert their minds and talents in different directions, freshening their skills and pushing their boundaries. Here you will enjoy winning entries in each category. At the time of the contest these stories had not been previously published, however, the author had the right to pull their work from this anthology if they chose to retain first publishing rights for use elsewhere. These stories are fun, or sad, or factual, or surprising - many of them are all these things. The genres are randomly mixed through the book. Pay attention to the names of the authors - you will probably see them again!Title of Story Author's NameRed Winter 1945 Charlene Dietz Go Time Sherene Gross As I Remember Him Larry KilhamStraight Flush Robert EdwardsLooka Here, Chad Dana StarrContingency Plan Mary Therese EllingwoodPoems Frank StephensPermission Brenda ColeMe, by Myself, Alone Linda YenThe Return of the Very Fierce Wolf of Gabbio to Assissi - Alan BernUnintended Consequences - Terrorist Turkeys Vicky RamakkaComida Leeanna TorresChristmas Eve on the RoadStan Rhine But What if the Buddhists got it Wrong?James Tritten Roberta and her Luchador Amara Cudney Midnight Express EVELYN M. When a flood decimated the offices of a premiere U.S. writers group, moving wasn't optional—it was mandatory. Months later, its treasury still depleted, SouthWest Writer's (SWW) president asked for fund-raising ideas at a Saturday meeting. “Let's publish an eBook!” came the response from a long-standing member in the hundred-plus audience, and The Storyteller's Anthology was born.Dozens of SWW members (aided by best-selling authors) donated prose, poetry and photos which were, in turn, groomed by SWW members with editing chops, to produce this first-class anthology. Everything was donated—including editing and book design—to raise funds for the nonprofit organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico known as SouthWest Writers. In this book you will be delighted, entertained, and surprised by the hard-hitting introduction by Anne Hillerman, daughter of beloved southwestern mystery master, the late Tony Hillerman; the killer short story by none-other than the thriller king himself, David Morrell; a short story that's southwestern to the bone by Chuck Greaves; and a tale with a southern twist by SWW member Sarah Storme/Baker. Eleven delightful short stories follow, along with five intriguing book excerpts, three memoirs, eight juicy essays and nonfiction offerings, and nine poems—recommended for those not into poetry—complete this fine collection. You'll learn how SouthWest Writers was formed in the 1980s and what makes the group a magnet for would be and published writers alike, most, but not all of whom, reside and write in New Mexico. The Land of Enchantment will come to life before your eyes in their original prose, poetry and photos as presented in The Storyteller's Anthology.

An anthology of essays & poetry offering a reconsideration of one of America’s most misunderstood cities. Is Indianapolis just another midwestern city to fly over on the way to bigger and better destinations? Or is it, as locals know, a place where different peoples and ideals converge to create a rich cultural center? The Indianapolis Anthology showcases Naptown’s vibrancy and diversity with pieces from journalists, poets, historians, established community voices, and first-time writers. The Circle City is more than the home of the Indianapolis 500, John Dillinger, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Kurt Vonnegut, Prozac, and Wonder Bread. In these pages, you’ll find: · lawn chairs in the beds of pick-ups · Punk rock in Naptown · suffragists and entrepreneurs · cement pietàs · dog bakeries and yoga studios · red brick bungalows and war memorials · steakburgers and Mexican seafood; pho and sauerbraten · and more In other words, you'll find images from a city that is truly a cross section of today’s America. Edited by Norman “Buzz” Minnick and with contributions from Etheridge Knight, Terrance Hayes, Michael Martone, and Karen Kovacik. An insiders’ look that will make you see a great midwestern city in a brand-new light.

Radical Equalities And Global Feminist Filmmaking An Anthology written by Bernadette Wegenstein and has been published by Vernon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Art categories.

"Radical Equalities and Global Feminist Filmmaking - An Anthology"’s main objective is to exhibit and unveil the fruit of the growing movement of feminist filmmakers around the world through interviews with current filmmakers themselves and through critical analysis of the works of these filmmakers. Every filmmaker we examine tells their own story about radical equality from a place that they have lived, are drawing from, or have imagined. The common theme in all of the films of our selected filmmakers is the obligation they feel towards the oppressed and the resulting ethics of interdependence their films exhibit. Some films give voice to those who are suffering in the shadows, or have been silenced and murdered because of their political orientation and work; some films showcase vulnerable identities (especially gender identities) because the characters are inter-sex, transgender, of a marginalised class and skin color, are being forced into a split identity because of a colonial history, or because they are living in a part of the world from which they cannot escape. Other films highlight the feminist experience of lesbian love and its constraints or revolutions, the experience of motherhood, and the question of origin in all of its complexities. The authors have, to date, conducted 16 interviews with filmmakers from around the world who, in very different ways - at times with comic relief , at times by pointing the cameras back at themselves, at times by inviting the viewer to grieve with them - question radical equality and vulnerability. We have selected these films on the basis of their unique stories and story-telling style, and their diverse points of view referencing different socio-political historical realities around the world. Each of them has one, if not several, female, intersex or non binary characters as their leads; each of them engage us with the question of feminism in a political way that highlights our obligation toward the character and her lived experience. Each of them focuses on “interdependence” as an aesthetic and cinematic principle. But what is most important is the fact that each filmmaker will be able to describe how they found their access and inspiration for their story, and how the film reflects on their own lived experience that is socio-economically and historically determined.
