A garden will never grow unless someone takes the time to plant seeds. Likewise, God has planned things so that people will not be saved from their sins unless someone shares the good news of Jesus Christ with them. Just like a seed planted in good soil brings forth a beautiful garden, God uses the gospel message to produce Christians fit for bearing spiritual fruit. In Sowing the Seed, children will read stories about people sharing the gospel with others. These stories about missions and evangelism reinforce the importance of sharing the gospel and encourage children to see the joy of telling others about Jesus. Contents: 1. A Faithful Pastor 2. Doing God’s Work 3. Shy Woman 4. George Whitefield 5. The Christian Traveler 6. The Gardener’s Glad Moment 7. Fillip 8. The Father Taught by His Child 9. The Convict 10. Pleading Tears 11. Do not deceive yourselves; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap. For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8) We can't get away from the principle of reaping what we sow. If we sow good seed, we anticipate a great harvest. But if we sow weeds, we'll harvest no more than we sowed. The same is true spiritually and practically. If we want a reward in heaven, we must live for Christ. On the other hand, if we lie, cheat, swear, steal, get drunk, use drugs, or otherwise fulfill the lusts of the flesh, the reality is we'll pay the consequences both now and in eternity. No matter how much society tries to convince us otherwise, this law has proven to be true without fail. This is the bright truth held before us in this little book – if we sow good seed, we will reap a great harvest. While sowing and caring for the seed sown isn't without work, the promise of a great harvest is what keeps us going and what brings joy to our labors. Be assured that it is not in vain to spend much time pruning, weeding, and carefully watching over the garden of your heart and the hearts of those you love.

Acts 9:17 reads, "Brother Saul, Jesus hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight." Saul had his need met by a man that was directed by God; some say that was a chance encounter. Sowing Precious Seed offers an insight into the passion of Helen Berry. Helen has been moved to carry the gospel wherever life took her. Being a nurse she mingled with people in need. As a good sower, she "scattered the seed," and as an eager harvester she sought to "gather in," being always alert to her Master's cause. This book demonstrates the power inherent in the blending of a devout soul in tune with the Lord, together with a heart of love for the unsaved. It documents those impacted by their encounter with Helen, and it shows that God still directs those who have a heart burning for Him. There are unusual circumstances and amazing encounters, which could be deemed to be "chance meetings," but which are clearly seen to be the hand of God, still directing secretly but certainly. Let those who read this book take care; it will bring not just admiration with what God can do through a devoted life, but will change your attitude to prayer and witnessing. It exhibits a life consciously dedicated to our Lord, a life we all ought to be living. Pastor James McAlees, Grace Bible Church, Las Vegas, Nevada Helen has always been involved in the area of church planting. Presently, she is helping start a church in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is an accomplished pianist; faithfully using the talent God has given her for His glory. She currently is a Gospel for Asia volunteer and enjoys working with children in Good News Clubs with Child Evangelism. Helen has two grown sons, Rusty and David.

It is 1982, and Jerry Andrews is a man who never did play it by the book. This was the case when he decided to unbuckle the straps of stability to pursue a dream. The dream, that of teaching college history was achieved, but it didn't come without the blues. His marriage dissolved, his best friend died, and then just when he smelled the scent of tenure, he was terminated. The termination leaves him broken, whereupon he retreats into the tunnel of internalized solitude. Thus begins the slow journey to redefine his life, his place in the world. He breaks the solitude to take his personal journey on the road from Illinois to New York. Follow him as he works in a restaurant, tips his elbow in bars, and unwittingly gets deeper into the heart of America, tasting tidbits of current events, politics, art, environment, landscape, and regional cuisine along the way. Through it all, and commingling within his journey is a quilted story of America, with the concept of "we the people," as the center pole. He learns to listen more closely to everyday stories from a passing variety of characters. They float by, some stopping- their voices filtering in and out, becoming stimuli that intersects throughout the book. For this journey, his constant companion is his lost profession of history. His historical love didn't end with his termination. It takes on other forms, as images, dreams, and visions. Yes, that's right, dreams and visions. Jerry Andrews, a man who never did play it by the book, is someone who sees and touches the world a little differently than most people. For example, the memory of a mystical Zuni bracelet becomes the setting sun in the western sky, and transports him to a place of remembered warmth. A place where he dances with migrating sandhill cranes, and ponders- why is a lonesome coyote showing herself and singing to him, a predator? This isn't everyday daydreaming; it's real. It's real because to Jerry Andrews, it actually happened! His companion, history walking, isn't textbook neat; it's unrestrained and full of the blues. It's against forgetting, and is transmitted via historical inserts that flow as tributaries through the river of the book. The history is varied, from coal mining to farming to the Delta Blues; from Native American to Hispanic history; from Vietnam to Guatemala to Ulysses S. Grant to John Dillenger. These multifaceted inclusions weave a fabric that is America, and transcend the borderlines of time and place. His journey to mend his broken spirit is an honest gathering of spiritual knowledge that acknowledges what Black Elk said, a true journey never ends.

Over many years, a hundred writers sat at their desks with the same aim - to write about 300 words that would grab the reader's attention before telling them the Bible's wonderful good news of salvation from the penalty of sin and the certainty of new life with God. What they produced were published as 'tracts' (leaflets) and printed along with many others in their tens of thousands to be distributed on the street or posted through letter boxes. These 100 tracts have been collated here in this book for two main reasons. Firstly, to keep on 'sowing the seed' - our prayer is that many who need the good news of the Gospel will read this book carefully and their life be transformed to fruitfulness as a result. Secondly, there are many 'seed-sowers' looking for ways to share the good news, and perhaps some of the illustrations used here, along with the key Bible verses and the clear explanation of salvation, will be helpful to you. Please use the material freely. If you would like to obtain printed versions for distribution, many of these leaflets are still available to purchase from the publisher.

How do we sow the Christian gospel in Japanese soil so that it thrives with multiplying disciples and healthy churches? To be effective in sowing the gospel we must know our seed and the soil. I had been sharing in seminars these ideas about culture and Japan for some time. From those experiences, equipping people to share the gospel with Japanese, I realized they needed somewhat more than an occasional seminar. This was a needy area no matter if workers were part of the new wave of people sent to Japan or whether they had long experience struggling with the missiological enigma of Japan. I am in a long line of people who have written on the gospel and the culture of Japan. I have tried to present a broadminded evangelical perspective on some complex issues. This book is written in two parts, the first explores the soil of Japan and the second focuses on sowing the gospel in Japan. Each chapter will attempt to answer several key questions of our quest to penetrate the beliefs and worldview of the Japanese. The book contains a handy index to the content.
