Im zweiten Kapitel wird zu Beginn die terminologische Klärung des Begriffs sozialer Brennpunkt definiert, im Folgenden werden die verschiedenen Faktoren sowie die Analyse dieser vorgestellt. Im abschließenden Fazit wird rückblickend die Forschungsfrage beantwortet sowie ein Ausblick auf die weitere Entwicklung sozialer Brennpunkte gegeben.

In dieser Seminararbeit soll erläutert werden, aufgrund welcher Problematiken der Stadtteil Duisburg-Marxloh, der in der Vergangenheit für viel mediale Aufmerksamkeit sorgte, als sozialer Brennpunkt zu verstehen ist. Zudem soll geschildert werden, welche Rolle die Gemeinwesenarbeit bei der Verbesserung dieses Stadtteils spielt. Dafür soll zunächst einmal eine Definition des Begriffes „Sozialer Brennpunkt“ aufgestellt werden und es wird aufgezeigt, welche Erscheinungsformen eine solche Wohngegend ausmachen. Dabei wird auch eine kurze Definition der Gemeinwesenarbeit und ihrer Bedeutung aufgestellt. Das vierte Kapitel besteht aus einer sozialräumlichen Analyse des Stadtteils, gefolgt von einer Darstellung der Problemlage von Duisburg-Marxloh. Daraufhin werden drei sozialraumorientierte Projekte zur Aufwertung des Stadtteils erläutert, in welchen Handlungsfeldern sie eine Rolle spielen und welche Bedeutung sie zur Verbesserung des Stadtteils beitragen. Fernerhin stellt das sechste Kapitel Ziele in weiteren Handlungsfeldern dar sowie eine mögliche Entwicklung von Duisburg-Marxloh, wobei auch die Stärken des Stadtteils bündig angeschnitten werden. In den letzten zwei Kapiteln soll vor allem die Rolle der Gemeinwesenarbeit in den Fokus gerückt werden.

In this monumental book, sociologist Robert Castel reconstructs the history of what he calls "the social question," or the ways in which both labor and social welfare have been organized from the Middle Ages onward to contemporary industrial society. Throughout, the author identifies two constants bearing directly on the question of who is entitled to relief and who can be excluded: the degree of embeddedness in any given community and the ability to work. Along this dual axis the author locates virtually the entire history of social welfare in early-modern and contemporary Europe.This work is a systematic defense of the meaningfulness of the category of "the social," written in the tradition of Foucault, Durkheim, and Marx. Castel imaginatively builds on Durkheim's insight into the essentially social basis of work and welfare. Castel populates his sociological framework with vivid characterizations of the transient lives of the "disaffiliated": those colorful itinerants whose very existence proved such a threat to the social fabric of early-modern Europe.
