Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Soziale Arbeit / Sozialarbeit, Note: 2,5, Evangelische Hochschule Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit über 100 Jahren bieten die Mitarbeiter der Bahnhofsmissionen an deutschen Bahnhöfen Reisenden, Verirrten und Hilfesuchenden ihre Unterstützung an. Aus der Tätigkeit der Diakonissen, die zu den Bahnhöfen zogen, um alleinreisende, junge Frauen vor Prostitution und Ausbeutung zu bewahren, wurde eine bundesweite, feste Institution an größeren Bahnhöfen. Wie konnte sich diese Institution so weit entwickeln? Wie reagierte die Bahnhofsmission auf die vielen unterschiedlichen sozialen Notlagen, auf die politischen und gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen während dieser langen Tätigkeitszeit? Wo liegen heute die Schwerpunkte der Bahnhofsmissionsarbeit? Wie sieht die Arbeit heutzutage vor Ort aus? Ist die Bahnhofsmission heute überhaupt noch „am Puls der Zeit“? Diesen Fragen möchte ich in meiner Diplomarbeit nachgehen. Zunächst möchte ich also der Geschichte der Bahnhofsmission auf die Spur gehen und im weiteren Verlauf die aktuelle Situation untersuchen. Den ersten 60 Jahren wird in der Darstellung mehr Raum gewidmet als den letzten, da die Ereignisse dieser Zeit mit der nicht ganz einfachen Konstituierung der Bahnhofsmission als solcher, den beiden Weltkriegen und der komplizierten Lage in der DDR die Bahnhofsmissionsarbeit insgesamt mehr beeinflusst und geprägt haben. Zwar wurde die Bahnhofsmission in der Bundesrepublik auch Zeuge zahlreicher gesellschaftlicher Ereignisse, jedoch hat keines von ihnen die Arbeit dermaßen zu einer grundlegenden Neuorientierung gezwungen. Da ich selbst seit drei Jahren ehrenamtlich in der Bahnhofsmission in Essen arbeite, hat mich dieses Thema auch persönlich sehr interessiert. Die Bahnhofsmission Essen führt, neben den Standardaufgaben noch eigene Projekte durch, die als Reaktion auf die Situation vor Ort entstanden sind und es schien mir interessant, diese Bahnhofsmission einmal gesondert vorzustellen um zu untersuchen, ob bzw. wie die Bahnhofsmission sich auch heute noch weiterentwickelt. Abschließend gehe ich der Frage auf die Spur, ob Veränderungen, die die Arbeit der Bahnhofsmission beeinflusst haben, auch Auswirkungen auf andere soziale Hilfeeinrichtungen hatten und haben.
