Social Inequality And Interreligious Learning written by Alexander Unser and has been published by LIT Verlag Münster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-22 with categories.

Interreligious learning is viewed as a key educational task today. Increasing religious plurality in our societies and associated risks of societal tensions and conflicts necessitate that students deal at school with other religions, their belief systems, and the social reality of those who believe in them. Although several international studies have shown that some categories of students are at risk to be disadvantaged at school because of social inequality, this problem is currently not considered in theories of interreligious learning. Therefore, the present study investigates whether or not categories of students are disadvantaged in interreligious learning. In addition to theological and pedagogical insights about the problem of social inequality, this book presents an empirically validated action-theoretical model which helps to understand why some students have better or worse opportunities in interreligious learning. The action-theoretical model further proposes strategies to address unequal learning conditions in interreligious learning.

On The Facilitation Of The Academy written by Elias Westergaard and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-17 with Education categories.

"The ‘academy’ is not restricted to the architectural limits of the university, but a broader conception of education that, through its social dissemination, ought to be continually shaped in relation to academic practice, thinking and living. Educational institutions are not solely modern providers of a pertinent workforce but foremost communities of thought with cultural, political and social importance. On the Facilitation of the Academy is thus concerned with educational issues that cohere, but also quarrels with, the university institution today as the highest institutionalised place for learning. The contributors in this volume consider practices of learning, teaching and knowledge acquisition in academic environments. It challenges educational issues in relation to conversation, discourse and tradition as well as contains contributions on threshold concepts, knowledge production and dangerous thinking. Belonging to a variety of academic orientations – philosophy, educational theory, psychoanalysis, communication studies – the authors in this volume offer different takes, but share similar features and aspects, on the worries that should occupy academe today."

Social Class And Transnational Human Capital written by Jürgen Gerhards and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-26 with Social Science categories.

Due to globalization processes, foreign language skills, knowledge about other countries and intercultural competences have increasingly become important for societies and people’s social positions. Previous research on social inequality, however, has dominantly focused on the reproduction of class structures within the boundaries of a particular nation-state without considering the importance of these specific skills and competences. Within Social Class and Transnational Human Capital authors Gerhards, Hans and Carlson refer to these skills as ‘transnational human capital’ and ask to what extent access to this increasingly sought-after resource depends on social class. Based on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of class, they investigate this question via both quantitative and qualitative empirical analyses. In doing so the authors focus, among other examples, on the so-called school year abroad, i.e. students spending up to a year abroad while attending school – a practice which is rather popular in Germany, but also quite common in many other countries. Thus, this insightful volume explores how inequalities in the acquisition of transnational human capital and new forms of social distinction are produced within families, depending on their class position and the educational strategies parents pursue when trying to prepare their children for a globalizing world. An enlightening title, this book will appeal to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers interested in fields such as sociology, social inequality research, globalization studies and educational studies.

Social Capital and Schooling Decisions: a Multi-level Comparison with Selected Cases in Cameroon and Germany is a book written in a time when global political and economic organizations put education in front of their agenda and set up agencies in different educational institutions for reforming the current society. This volume examines the educational problem of difficult participation in formal education and the non-possession of educational certificates in a global and multi-level perspective - with reference to Cameroon and Germany as two distinct places within the modern world system. The author, with her transnational experiences in both countries uses a data set of 138 at-risk young adults to highlight the specific educational meaning of social capital and to underline the need for analyzing educational problems in a multi-level comparative perspective. The book concludes that context matters and emphasizes on the need for the creation of a more equitable social and economic development policy which counteracts the inequality that is inherent in most centre - peripheral relations. About the Author: Brendan Ngeloo Abamukong holds a PhD in Educational Science and has worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Faculty of Human Sciences, department of Education at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, Germany. She has currently moved to the Netherlands where she intends to continue her carrier in both educational research and practice.
